About The Position

This is a State Compensatory Education funded position, providing compensatory, intensive, and/or accelerated instruction to students identified as educationally disadvantaged. The role involves providing students with appropriate learning activities to improve specific skill deficits in reading and/or math. These targeted interventions are delivered in small group settings to students with similar needs, offering them additional opportunities for practice and feedback.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or training for subject and level assigned
  • Knowledge of core academic subject assigned
  • Knowledge of effective reading and math instruction
  • General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
  • Strong organizational, communication (verbal and written), and interpersonal skills

Nice To Haves

  • Five years’ experience in elementary or secondary reading and/or math instruction preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of reading and/or math interventions specified by the district and show written evidence of preparation as required.
  • Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles and proficiency levels.
  • Teach the TEKS/SE as set forth by the Texas Education Agency and the district reading and/or math intervention curriculum and present the curriculum in accordance with guidelines, policy, and regulations.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques consistent with the needs and capabilities of a student’s reading and/or math skills.
  • Collaborate with other members of the staff in planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives, and methods in accordance with district requirements.
  • Analyze and disaggregate data to assist in meeting the academic needs of students.
  • Assist students in analyzing and improving methods and habits of study.
  • Assure student success as determined by the state and district curriculum and assessments.
  • Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
  • Create a learning environment that is appropriate to students’ physical, social, and emotional development.
  • Manage student behavior and administer discipline according to policies and regulations.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required in a timely manner.
  • Communicate information accurately and clearly.
  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students, parents and staff.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Present a positive role model for students that supports the mission of the district.
  • Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical and responsible.
  • Demonstrate interest and initiative in professional improvement, participate in training programs, and remain up to date on instructional strategies with a focus on reading and/or math.
  • Keep informed of and comply with federal and state laws, policies, and regulations.
  • Maintain familiarity with the district’s curriculum and initiatives to better serve students’ needs.
