About The Position

As a Special Education Teacher Intern at The Menta Education Group, you will have the freedom and ability to educate a small classroom of students in a self-contained setting. Our social-emotional learning environments offer engaged and inquiry-based academics combined with a P.B.I.S. structure. HarbourView Academy is a special education school in Phoenix that not only provides a rigorous education but also a temporary short-term placement called Alternative to Suspension (ATS) for students who would otherwise be suspended from their home schools. The safe environment and special education curriculum in our Phoenix school reduces the number of out-of-school suspensions and provides support to help students reintegrate into their home schools successfully. At our school in Phoenix, we cater to the academic and social-emotional needs of high-risk children and adolescents aged 5 through 22. Our no-refusal, no-suspension, no-expulsion policy offers a continuum of services to meet the needs of this challenging student population. We believe every child can learn and our goal is to ensure students master the necessary academic and social skills for an independent and productive life. Our well-structured, engaging, safe, and instructional Optimal Learning Environment and special education program in Phoenix is responsive to student needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Willing to return to a university to obtain tuition-reimbursed degree in Special Education: To obtain a Special Education Teacher License.
  • Valid General Education Teaching Certificate with the willingness to pursue Special Ed Certification OR Bachelor's Degree in a related field which may include fields of Psychology, Social Work, Sociology or Health & Human Services.
  • Experience with working with students with a range of special education disabilities including but not limited to; autism, emotional disturbance, traumatic brain injury, mild to moderate cognitive and/or developmental disabilities.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Well-organized and able to multitask.
  • Possess a positive attitude.

Nice To Haves

  • Arizona Substitute Teacher Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Engage in the opportunity to better understand special education curriculum and how to teach diverse learners.
  • Teach all subjects in a classroom setting.
  • Provide a differentiated learning environment.
  • Work collaboratively with staff, including curriculum and clinical staff to yield positive results for the students.
  • Gain support on-campus from other teachers, administrators, curriculum staff, clinical staff, and various support staff that are Menta employees.
  • Have the freedom and ability to personalize learning.
  • Provide a social-emotional learning environment.
  • Have a classroom size of around 10 students with paraprofessional support in the classroom.
  • Receive professional development and support.
