About The Position

Under general supervision of Regional Site Director, this position delivers high-quality Early Childhood Development services to infants and toddlers enrolled in center programs. This includes focusing on the educational, social, physical, nutritional, and psychological development of children. The role involves communicating with parents about their child's progress, maintaining records of attendance and educational achievement, planning lessons, serving meals, and ensuring a healthy and safe learning environment for children.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in early childhood education, child development, or related field from an institution of higher learning accredited by a regional accreditation association recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
  • Must possess a current and valid Child Development Teacher Permit or higher.
  • Must have three (3) semester units in early childhood development with a focus on infant and toddler development, with a total of six (6) units within the first year of employment.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Ability to provide responsive and nurturing teacher-child interactions, and to plan and implement learning experiences that ensure effective curriculum implementation and use of assessment data.
  • Ability to promote children’s progress across the standards described in the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework: Ages Birth to Five and applicable state early learning and development standards, including for children with disabilities and dual language learners, as appropriate.
  • Ability to advance children’s intellectual and physical development, including improving the readiness of children for school by developing their literacy, phonemic, and print awareness, understanding and use of language and increasingly complex and varied vocabulary, appreciation of books, understanding of early math and science, problem-solving skills, and approaches to learning.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a healthy learning environment.
  • Ability to support children’s social and emotional development.
  • Ability to encourage family involvement of the children in an Early Head Start program and support the development of relationships between children and their families.
  • Ability to promote infant/toddler development.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of safety issues in infant/toddler care (such as SIDS).
  • Facilitate effective communication with infants, toddlers, parents, and other staff members.
  • Must be a team player with outstanding interpersonal skills.
  • Must have good organizational, written/oral communication and observation skills.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Current Adult & Pediatric CPR/1 St Aid Certificate.
  • Reliable transportation to get to assigned work location in accordance with assigned working hours.
  • Must pass the following background checks prior to start of employment: Sex Offender Registry, Child Abuse and Neglect State Registry, State or Tribal Criminal History Check, including fingerprints, FBI Criminal History Check, including fingerprints.
  • Must have verification of T.B. clearance at time of employment, to be renewed every four (4) years (every 4 years for chest x-rays).
  • Must pass health screening (LIC 503) at time of employment, health screening is accepted within one year prior to hire, to be renewed every four (4) years.
  • Provide proof of the following immunizations as required: Measles, Pertussis (Whooping Cough), Influenza, and COVID-19.
  • Must complete 15 clock hours of professional development annually that builds the knowledge, experience, skills, and abilities of staff to improve child, family, and staff outcomes. Of this, a minimum of 50% of the 15 hours (or 7.5 hours) must be focused on the specific content area or job assignment.
  • Must also complete an annual Professional Development Plan (PDP) to be reviewed 3 times during the year.
  • Must obtain 21 hours/year of professional development (105 hours every five years) to maintain their teaching certification/permit.
  • T.B. Test within the past year prior to employment, and every four (4) years thereafter (every 4 years for a chest X-ray).
  • Must pass a physical examination at the time of hire, and every 4 years thereafter.
  • Provide proof of the following immunizations as required: Measles, Pertussis (Whooping Cough), and Influenza.
  • COVID vaccination required; must have two-dose series of Pfizer or Moderna or a single-dose of Johnson & Johnson. Those that need a medical or religious exemption must reach out separately.
  • Representative physical demands of the job include normal vision and hearing, standing for extended periods, sitting for extended periods, kneeling, and stooping, manipulating objects with hands, reaching overhead, and occasionally lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 45 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the care and supervision of all enrolled PACE Education Division center-based children.
  • Planning and implementing classroom lessons.
  • Conducting meetings and conferences with parents.
  • Coordinating activities and events for children and parents.
  • Interacting with the public and providing customer service by phone, email and in person.
  • Preparing correspondence, reports, records, and other paperwork required by the early childhood education program.
  • Supervising children up to 7 hours per day.
  • Ensuring the child/adult ratio is met and maintained.
  • Conduct safety checks and maintain a safe, clean, care-giving environment.
  • Practicing good personal hygiene and handwashing.
  • Assuring the well-being and safety of all the children in the environment and sanitizing all areas of the classroom, including food preparation and eating area.
  • Responding quickly to children’s different personal needs (verbal and non-verbal cues), temperament styles, abilities, and cultures.
  • Implementing and documenting individualized feeding plans for infants and toddlers, and respecting individual preferences and eating styles.
  • Tending to infants and toddlers’ personal hygiene needs, during routines such as diaper changing, cleaning, feeding, and changing soiled or wet clothes.
  • Preparing and/or serving meals and snacks; holding infants, sitting with toddlers to encourage social interaction, good nutrition, and performing housekeeping tasks.
  • Maintaining a clean, safe and sanitized environment (including sanitizing materials and dishwashing as needed).
  • Supervising children during nap time.
  • Developing and utilizing weekly lesson plans which reflect mandated elements and components, parental and cultural influences, and promote the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development of Early Head Start children in accordance with all PACE Education Division selected curriculums and Head Start Performance Standards.
  • Working with parents to develop individual lesson plans, goals, and objectives for each child’s development in the domains required by the Head Start Performance Standards.
  • Organizing each day’s activities to provide children with a variety of experiences.
  • Scheduling, supporting, and following through with the developmental screening and ongoing assessment of infants’ and toddlers’ motor, language, social, cognitive, perceptual, and emotional skills (including but not limited to DRDP-2015 IT, ASQ-3, ASQ: SE-2, etc.).
  • Encouraging and supporting parents in participation of children’s screening and assessment process, including anecdotal information.
  • Participating and assisting in implementation of the Individual Family Service Plan.
  • Coordinating services between families and other community agencies.
  • Ensuring that education timelines are met within their required calendar day (I.e. 30-45-60-90 timelines etc.).
  • Preparing the infant/toddler learning environment for children to learn through active exploration and interaction with adult caregivers and adapting activities for infants and toddlers with special needs.
  • Maintaining an open, friendly, and cooperative relationship with each child’s family; encouraging parental involvement in the program; promoting parent-child bonding and nurturing parent-child relationships.
  • Promoting feelings of security and trust in infants and toddlers by conveying warmth, supportiveness, and comfort; establishing strong and caring relationships with children.
  • Conducting home visits and parent conferences for the purpose of assessment and support, and to share information on classroom progress and educational strategies at school and home.
  • Developing individual transition plans with families, agency staff and any pertinent community agencies.
  • Attending and participating in staff meetings and related activities.
  • Attending workshops, conferences, in-service training, and classes to increase professional knowledge.
  • Serving on committees as assigned.
  • Maintaining records of enrollment, attendance, and other required paperwork, both manually and digitally.
  • Preparing attendance records, first aid/injury reports, food service records, meal participation records, family contact records, memos, correspondence, and other job-related documents.
  • Accurately completing all assigned paperwork and documentation, on a timely basis, according to agency policies and procedures.
  • Working effectively with other team members.
  • Cooperating with Site Lead Teacher, Regional Site Director and Service Area Managers in planning, supervision, and implementation of overall program.
  • Supporting with child watch during parent meetings/trainings, as needed.
  • Substituting as needed in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Attending all assigned meetings and trainings as required by the program.
  • Supporting and ensuring the achievement of recruitment and enrollment goals.
  • Assisting in accomplishing the program's non-federal share through the access of community resources (services, donations, discounts, and/or goods).
  • Other duties as assigned within the scope of the position.
