About The Position

Tacoma Public Schools is seeking a Teacher for High School English/World History. This full-time position (1.0 FTE) requires 7.5 hours per day and is expected to start on September 01, 2026. The salary is based on preparation level and experience, ranging from $73,549 to $144,248. The role involves teaching four sections of English 9 and one section of World History. The teacher will plan, organize, and provide students with appropriate learning activities and a classroom environment to foster intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth, while supporting District and State curriculum, policies, and initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited university with appropriate educational endorsement.
  • Valid Washington State teaching certificate.
  • Completion of all District-required trainings, as assigned.
  • Fingerprints and successful WSP and FBI background clearance/sexual misconduct clearance.
  • Knowledge of applicable Washington State and Federal rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of subject matter/course content relevant to assignment.
  • Knowledge of and skills in using various formative and summative assessments.
  • Knowledge and skill in instructional principles, methods and techniques.
  • Skill in obtaining, clarifying and exchanging information.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, plans and strategizes a program of study based on student learning needs, and meets individual needs, interests, and abilities.

  • Supervises students in various school settings.
  • Effectively utilizes and provides access to community and District resources to enhance student learning.
  • Maintains and updates knowledge and skills through professional development activities.
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees.
  • Supervises Para Educators and other classroom office assistance as required.
  • Provides guidance and works with staff members.
  • Develops and maintains professional and collegial relationships with colleagues.
  • Collaborates with peers and administrators to improve student learning.
  • Adheres to Tacoma Public School Board policies.
  • Contributes to the development of new teachers and student teachers.
  • Maintains files on latest curriculum guides.
  • Keeps updated on resources and methods and makes relevant changes to instructional plans.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
  • Maintains regular, reliable, predictable attendance.
