About The Position

The Salemwood School is one of the largest and most diverse K-8 schools in the city of Malden, serving over 1000 students in grades Kindergarten through Grade 8. Our school prides itself on its international diversity, with families speaking over 34 different languages and representing over 30 different countries. We partner with parents and caregivers to provide a safe, nurturing, and stimulating learning environment where all children feel a sense of belonging and have access to the academic, social, and emotional resources needed to reach their full potential. We aim to develop students into successful, independent, and culturally-proficient members of our community and the world. Positive engagement and respectful behavior are taught as skills, fostering respect for self and others, civic responsibility, and an appreciation for diverse origins, identities, beliefs, and learning styles. Teachers value the culture and beliefs each child brings, believing that children learn by engaging with their world. Students are expected to take responsibility for their learning while collaborating, supporting, and respecting others. Teachers provide learning experiences that guide student interests while developing literacy and math skills, critical thinking, problem-solving, and inquiry in science and history. The school embraces the PBIS framework for positive behavior management, reinforcing high expectations and respect. The mascot, the Shark, represents being Safe, Helpful, Attentive, Respectful, and Kind. Salemwood is committed to celebrating student achievements, complementing learning styles, and using cultural diversity as an inspirational beacon.
