The primary function of a teacher is to deliver the district curriculum in multiple ways that increase student learning and achievement. Teachers teach elementary school students academic, social, and motor skills through the delivery of the district curriculum. They prepare class objectives and outlines that align with the district-approved curriculum, and prepare, administer, correct, and analyze student assessments. Teachers utilize the conclusions derived from assessment analysis in developing lessons, and instruct students on rules of conduct and expected behaviors. They manage their classes as well as other students, identify students with academic issues and refer them to appropriate service providers, and regularly inform parents or guardians of their students' academic performance and behavior. Teachers maintain records, attendance, and grades as required by the school, plan, organize, and deliver differentiated instruction, and provide timely feedback to students, parents, and guardians on evaluations. They use appropriate techniques and strategies that promote critical, creative, and evaluative thinking skills, strive to maintain a learning environment that is both physically and emotionally safe, and effectively and regularly communicate with fellow staff members and school administration. Additionally, teachers assist in the communication and enforcement of federal and state laws and regulations as well as district policies and procedures, and work cooperatively with school administration, staff, and special education. They respect students, parents, guardians, and the community, assist parents with questions and concerns, maintain professional relationships, and respect and embrace students of diverse backgrounds and experiences. Teachers also assist in the protection of students and property, assist the Principal or Vice Principal in fire and other emergency drills, and assist in the management of students during dismissal and field trips. They maintain a high level of personal integrity, confidentiality, and a strong work ethic, and participate in district professional development.
