About The Position

High Tech High (HTH) is seeking Elementary School Teachers to join the teaching team at one of its five Elementary schools. Teachers at HTH are expected to design learning experiences that align with HTH's core design principles: equity, personalization, authentic work, and collaborative design. Supported by their school communities and director, teachers will design and facilitate meaningful project-based work. They will create and maintain learning environments where students feel a sense of belonging, can cultivate their curiosities and passions, explore their identities and those of others, engage in meaningful work, and develop as readers, writers, mathematicians, scientists, makers, artists, engineers, interdisciplinary problem solvers, question askers, friends, collaborators, and world changers. Under the general supervision of the School Director, teachers are responsible for preparing lesson plans and educating students, including assigning homework, grading tests, and documenting progress. Teachers must be adept at classroom management and engaging students with a project-based curriculum, fostering an environment that guides students to reach their academic potential and achieve learning goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Valid California Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential or Out-of-state teaching license
  • Ability to efficiently and effectively manage the time of self and others
  • Ability to work with professionalism, discretion, sound judgment, equity, honesty and personal accountability at all times
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Exceptional administrative and organization skills
  • Proficient knowledge of teaching strategies and methods
  • Ability to incorporate goals, competencies and objectives into lesson plans in ways that directly apply to student’s lives
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Ability to manage diversity

Responsibilities

  • Embody High Tech High’s design principles of Equity, Personalization, Authentic Work and Collaborative Design in all work activities and actions.
  • Create daily lesson plans with project-based assignments that are engaging, educational and exciting for the kids.
  • Plan, prepare and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences.
  • Incorporate goals, competencies and objectives into lesson plans in ways that directly apply to the student’s life.
  • Achieve school and course-wide performance goals for every student in class.
  • Grade assignments and homework regularly to keep students updated on how they are doing.
  • Identify students who are struggling with learning, emotional problems, or situations at home, and find them the resources they need.
