About The Position

This position involves providing instruction as a General Education Teacher and coaching students in football and a second sport. The role focuses on developing students' skills and abilities to excel in sports, contributing to the overall education program, and fostering student growth in athletics. The teacher/coach is responsible for creating an effective learning environment, identifying at-risk students, monitoring attendance, and utilizing technology in teaching. In the coaching aspect, the individual works with the Head Coach to establish performance criteria, evaluate athletic abilities, schedule competitions, and plan season activities. The role also includes supervising athletic activities, ensuring compliance with UIL rules and student eligibility, accompanying students on trips, and advising on NCAA regulations. Communication with parents, students, and staff is crucial, as is maintaining discipline and promoting sportsmanship. The position also involves assisting with equipment selection, maintenance, and inventory, following safety protocols, and pursuing professional development.

Requirements

Basic technology competencies
Bachelor’s Degree
Valid Texas Teacher Certificate in teaching area assigned
Valid Texas Teacher Certificate in English as a Second Language – Required for all Core Subject Teachers
Current First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Certificate
Commercial Drivers License (CDL) required for contract renewal
Ability to develop, implement and maintain a highly competitive program
Successful classroom teaching experience

Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students
Identify students who are at-risk and develop appropriate strategies to assist these students
Monitor attendance of all students in assigned classes, contact parents, counselors, or other school officials regarding an intervention plan for students with serious attendance problems
Utilize technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process
Work with other members of school staff to plan and implement instructional goals and objectives to ensure the overall educational development of student athletes
Work with Head Coach on establishing performance criteria for competition and evaluate students’ athletic abilities initially and on a regular basis
Model performance criteria and physical movements required for successful student performance of sport
Take all necessary precautions to protect student athletes, equipment, materials, and facilities
Work with Head Coach to schedule competitions and plan season activities including practices, special events, and tournaments
Coordinate with transportation department for travel arrangements to out-of-town events
Supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, and good sportsmanship
Use a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and improve the abilities of student athletes in the sport assigned
Maintain a highly competitive program
Ensure compliance with all UIL rules
Monitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation
Accompany and supervise student athletes during athletic competitions in assigned sports both at-home and on out-of-town trips
Instruct and advise students on NCAA regulations regarding academic requirements for scholarships and recruiting practices
Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers; ensure that all interactions are supportive, courteous, and respectful
Effectively implement the discipline-management procedures approved by the campus; interact with students in an equitable manner, including the fair application of rules
Apply and enforce student discipline during athletic contests, practice sessions, and while on trips off school property in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook
Encourage, by example and through instruction, sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation
Assist in selection of equipment and instructional materials
Oversee process of cleaning, repairing, and storing all campus athletic equipment and maintain a current inventory of all equipment and fixed assets within program
Follow District safety protocols and emergency procedures
Establish and maintain professional communication with parents, students, and District personnel
Continually learn and build personal and professional capacity
Maintain a supportive, positive, courteous, respectful and professional attitude regarding all aspects of the job responsibilities, administration, and District/campus goals
Positively represent Keller ISD and the District administration at public venues and/or activities; maintain a professional appearance, manner and work habit
Develop and implement systems to enhance the positive work environment as aligned with Core Documents
Develop and maintain systems for retrieval of information in support of all programs; compile, maintain, file, and secure all physical and computerized reports, records, and other required documents
Pursue professional development activities for self and assigned staff; ensure that professional development activities are aligned with District goals and initiatives and current professional research
