The Exceptional Student Education (ESE) Specialist provides on-site procedural and curricular assistance to school-based personnel regarding the education of students with disabilities. This role involves serving as the principal's designee for ESE staff, coordinating ESE meetings, updating staff on policy changes, and assisting regular education teachers in implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs). The specialist also helps IEP team members develop appropriate IEPs, ensures parents receive draft IEPs, and meets with ESE curriculum supervisors to discuss curricula, related services, and program delivery systems. Additionally, the role includes explaining Procedural Safeguards to parents, utilizing facilitative behaviors for IEP meetings, identifying and correcting IDEA compliance concerns, and communicating effectively with stakeholders to ensure IEP fidelity. The specialist will use the electronic management system for IEP documents and promote equal employment and non-discrimination policies. Participation in training programs, reviewing current developments, ensuring adherence to safety rules, and following policies are also key responsibilities. This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
