About The Position

The Career Pathways to Public Safety Program is a partnership between the Rochester City School District and the City of Rochester to increase minority representation in its uniformed divisions, while increasing the awareness of career opportunities within the Public Safety departments (Police, Fire, 911, Emergency Responders) of the City of Rochester. This position oversees project operations to include goal setting and coordination of activities. The program provides training and education in the fields of law enforcement, fire safety and emergency services, assisting students in becoming viable candidates and providing city entities with qualified and prepared candidates of diversity and local residency.

Requirements

  • New York State Teacher certification
  • Experienced Emergency Service Responders are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure student development for post-secondary and employment opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain processes including recruitment, selection, training and development from all school and community resources.
  • Anticipate the needs of the Partnership and establish priorities and courses of action to meet Partnership objectives each day.
  • Monitor educational, business, and professional trends to determine the most beneficial types of training to achieve goals and mission.
  • Obtain and analyze factual information relevant to Partnership objectives and clearly define work procedures to produce expected results.
  • Provide guidance to students, parents and entities that promotes a positive environment that attracts and retains participants through the longevity of the Partnership.
  • Plan, develop and implement additional courses from outside sources that will enhance students’ skill levels in preparation for the hiring processes of each entity.
  • Communicate in a clear, concise manner the progressive discipline process to ensure student participation and maintain Partnership integrity.
  • Coordinate curriculum development and audit training success through course critiques and periodic follow-up to ensure effectiveness of training programs.
  • Plans an instruction program that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of students.
  • Creates an environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of students.
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and -- in harmony with the goals -- establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
  • Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives.
  • Evaluates the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
  • Diagnoses the learning abilities and disabilities of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of District specialists as required.
  • Counsels with colleagues, students and parents on a regular basis and works cooperatively with staff, superiors and community.
  • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct and develops reasonable rules of behavior and procedure and maintains order in a fair and just manner.
  • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Attends meetings and serves on staff committees as appropriate.
  • Follows State Education Department's regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
