About The Position

Mapleton Public Schools, Adams County District #1 is seeking a Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year at Explore PK-8. Explore PK-8 is an Expeditionary Learning (EL) Learning School that emphasizes hands-on, community-based learning. Requirements

  • Colorado teaching license with an appropriate Elementary endorsement required.
  • K-3 teachers must provide documentation of evidence-based literacy training, Read Act Designation, per CDE requirements.
  • Willingness to pursue additional endorsement in Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education or equivalent coursework.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement expeditions/investigations as the primary means of organizing curriculum, aligning with district and state standards and the school content map.
  • Develop expedition documents including compelling topics, in-depth investigations, detailed project plans, and literacy integration.
  • Develop and use rubrics to assess student work throughout expeditions.
  • Support students in developing portfolios and preparing for student-led conferences and public exhibitions of work.
  • Utilize principles of active and participatory pedagogy to engage students in their learning.
  • Employ a range of effective instructional practices to support students in completing projects and meeting standards.
  • Develop in-depth lesson plans that ensure well-paced instruction, encourage student thinking, engage students in productive work, and ensure smooth classroom management.
  • Use flexible groups based on ongoing assessment to confer with students and provide differentiated instruction.
  • Work with students to create assessment criteria connected to standards, portfolio, and passage requirements, and help students understand, reflect on, and take responsibility for their learning.
  • Design lesson plans that integrate literacy and support content understanding across all subject areas.
  • Design lesson plans that effectively teach math and support content understanding across all subject areas.
  • Use data to inform decisions about instruction and assess personal performance to set improvement goals.
  • Appropriately participate in a shared decision-making model.
  • Work with school leadership to evaluate school performance and set school improvement goals.
  • Work with school leadership to revise drafts of calendars, schedules, and other school structures.
  • Attend and participate in professional development opportunities.
  • Establish effective classroom management and progress reporting structures aligned with school systems.
  • Prepare students for and participate fully in student-led conferences.
  • Provide clear and instructive information about student progress in all progress reports to students and families.
  • Choose instructional practices, compelling topics, and projects that promote character development.
  • Participate in adventure activities with students, including ropes courses, mountain, and camping excursions.
  • Participate fully and positively in a staff culture of reflection and the pursuit of the school's mission.
  • Collaborate with peers in curriculum and school structure development.
  • Give and receive support from peers to improve teaching practices.
  • Facilitate students' active role in their learning and leadership roles in their community through structures like service learning and leadership training.
  • Effectively manage classroom and school-wide structures that promote positive student behavior.
  • Utilize effective practices for community building, including rituals and traditions that foster a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment.
  • Complete mandatory Title IX training within 30 days of hire.
