About The Position

This position is for an Elementary Teacher for Grade 5 at Garfield Elementary. The role involves planning, preparing, and delivering instructional activities to facilitate active learning experiences. The teacher will create and maintain an environment that fosters student achievement and the development of lifelong skills, while maximizing opportunities for student success through positive working relationships. The position requires instructing and monitoring students in the use of learning materials and equipment, and demonstrating confidence in using new technology and various application packages. The teacher will serve as a role model for students in lifelong learning and professional behavior, and must be able to work collaboratively, be flexible, resourceful, innovative, and responsive to student needs. Responsibilities also include observing and evaluating student performance, encouraging and monitoring student progress, assigning and grading work, and assuming other responsibilities as determined by the supervising administrator. The role requires a professional demeanor and projecting a positive image of the School District.

Requirements

  • Valid Michigan Teaching certificate ZC, ZE, ZG, ZP.
  • Minimum of a Bachelors Degree.
  • Must be Highly Qualified in endorsement area.
  • Must meet certification and endorsement requirements for assignment.
  • Must meet all NCA and Michigan Department of Education requirements.
  • Be proficient in the use of technology.

Nice To Haves

  • Grade level experience preferred.
  • Master’s degree preferred.

  • Observe and evaluate student’s performance and development.
  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students.
  • Assign and grade class work, homework, tests and assignments and provide appropriate feedback on work.
  • Bend, twist, stoop, squat and lift up to 50 pounds in assisting students.
  • Assume other responsibilities as determined by their supervising administrator.
  • Conducts himself/herself in a professional manner commensurate with his/her position and project a good public image of the School District in dealing with the community and employee groups.
