About The Position

Spokane Public Schools is seeking qualified candidates who are prepared and excited to provide a 21st century learning environment that effectively addresses the emerging necessity of social emotional supports and blending learning strategies. Requirements

  • Qualifies for a Washington State teaching certificate with appropriate endorsements as required by law and regulations.
  • If possessing an initial or provisional certificate, the candidate must hold the appropriate endorsement.
  • Demonstrates classroom management procedures that provide for large and small groups, and individuals, and provides an environment conducive to learning.
  • Uses appropriate disciplinary procedures, establishes clear parameters for student behavior, responds properly when problems occur, and helps students toward self-discipline.

Nice To Haves

  • Have a master's degree in curriculum development, or instructional leadership, and/or course work in current English Language Arts practices, curriculum integration, effective instructional strategies, cooperative learning, and authentic assessment.
  • Have experience in working with culturally, socially, and economically diverse student and parent/guardian populations.
  • Have completed five years of successful classroom teaching experience, demonstrating active student involvement, integration of curriculum, flexible grouping patterns, use of appropriate materials, use of reading/writing processes, use of thinking strategies and problem solving strategies throughout curriculum areas, application of authentic assessment practices, and application of thinking strategies.
  • Demonstrate leadership abilities in organizing, implementing, and maintaining an effective, collaborative instructional program with the school staff that includes the ability to clearly articulate the elements and implementation of active learning, process learning, and inclusivity.
  • Demonstrate effective presentation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and assist staff to implement a differentiated program of English Language Arts and research based practices in elementary classrooms that will improve the performance and success of Title I students.
  • Work with staff members to implement an effective differentiated English Language Arts program for students.
  • Work with small groups of students in order to inform your work with classroom teachers.
  • Serve as a consultant to Title I and the basic education staff members by modeling/demonstrating effective instructional practices, demonstrating appropriate classroom strategies, and providing timely feedback information.
  • Serve as a peer coach with classroom teachers as they move from teacher directed instruction to more student-centered learning that incorporate the elements of active learning.
  • Assist in training teachers to: Make individual assessments of student needs; Plan and implement effective lessons that are differentiated to meet student needs; Assess and measure student progress.
  • Involve parents/guardians of children in their educational program to promote a continuing home/school partnership.
  • Provide ongoing training to staff for differentiated practices and student­ centered classrooms, including reading and writing processes and data-driven discussion.
  • Collaborate with building principals to support Title I students and programs.
  • Coordinate student programs with basic education and Title I staff to provide successful and inclusionary programs that follows state and federal rules and regulations.
  • Maintain required student and program documentation.
  • Attend Title I inservice meetings, professional development and facilitate in-building team meetings.
  • Adjust workday as necessary to provide inservice.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
