About The Position

These positions will serve as one member of a team designing, implementing, and training staff around specially designed instruction in Special Education programs such as BI, DI, ABLE and CIP, as well as Resource classrooms. This position will design curriculum and provide technical assistance and training to staff in specially designed classrooms at the elementary and secondary levels.

Requirements

  • Washington State teaching or ESA (Educational Staff Associate) certificate in Special Education or related field.
  • Required use of personal vehicle.

Nice To Haves

  • Successful administrative/supervisory experience, training, and the ability to efficiently organize time and detail preferred.
  • Master's degree in special education counseling and guidance, education, psychology, social work, or related field preferred.
  • Broad and varied background in certificated K-12 experience in special education, school counseling, other programs (Title I, ELD), and programs for at-risk youth is desirable.
  • Demonstrated successful experience partnering with social services agencies to leverage maximum resources for students as appropriate.
  • Communication skills both written and oral as demonstrated by work in a variety of circumstances with diverse school staff, parents, students, and the public.
  • Demonstrated successful experiences in the development of culturally responsive school environments and engagement strategies preferred.
  • Demonstrated commitment to adhere to district policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective and culturally responsive working relationships with diverse groups, including principals, school staff, and community agencies.
  • Tact, diplomacy, composure under stress, and the ability to give and to accept constructive criticism of self and the district are required personal qualifications.
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws, district policies and procedures related to student rights and responsibilities, student records, compulsory attendance, and programs related programs is desirable.
  • Experience as a member, or in the management, of a crisis response team preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the implementation of procedures as outlined by the program in compliance with I.D.E.A and the current WAC rules and regulations as issued by the State Department of Special Education.
  • Identify curriculum and materials using the program standards as a guide to support instruction in special education program classrooms.
  • Create a curriculum guide that provides the scope and sequence for a K-12 social skills curriculum.
  • Facilitate use of data to drive instruction.
  • Assist the Director of Special Education and Special Education Coordinators in development and evaluation to determine the effectiveness of a social skills curriculum through data collection and program analysis.
  • Establish, organize, and deliver professional development/training.
  • Coordinate in-service training programs and staff development opportunities during the school day as well as in the evening.
  • Design protocols to enhance the collaboration between special education programs and general education teachers to coordinate social skills instruction for special education students in the general education classroom.
  • Provide support to school administrators in the development of culturally responsive environments within both school and classroom settings to support special education program needs.
  • Provide support to school administrators in the development of trauma sensitive environment within both school and classroom settings to support special education program needs.
  • Be responsive to requests for assistance from other district administrators.
  • Problem-solve with school administrators and parents/guardians on issues related to student discipline or other behavioral concerns within the special education programs.
  • Support and collaborate with district and school staff to provide culturally responsive and culturally appropriate services to all students.
  • Work collaboratively as a team member in the department.
  • Attend a variety of meetings, conferences and seminars to maintain current knowledge and expertise of educational research, trends, and issues.
  • Generate and maintain records, reports, and data as requested by the supervisor.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
