About The Position

Augustana University invites applications for a Teacher Education Program Director and Assistant or Associate Clinical Professor of Education, beginning Fall 2027. The ideal candidate will oversee undergraduate curriculum and program development/improvement within the Teacher Education Program, teach courses relevant to their educational background and experience, and oversee the assessment and accreditation of the Teacher Education Program. A commitment to excellence in teaching pre-service and in-service teachers, engaging in service and scholarship/professional development, and collaborating with the Field Placement Coordinator are also key responsibilities. The role involves enhancing the student experience through academic and career advising, maintaining compliance with internal and external reporting requirements, and serving as a liaison between Augustana and the SD Department of Education. The successful applicant will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and mentoring students in a liberal arts environment.

Requirements

An earned doctorate in Education or a related field from an accredited college/university
At least three years of K-12 professional experience
Interacting with students, faculty, and administration with different backgrounds and points of view
A deep appreciation of and respect for academic values and shared governance

Nice To Haves

Experience with program assessment and accreditation
Successful teaching experience in teacher education
Experience in teaching courses at the college/university level
Certification and teaching experience at the secondary level

Responsibilities

Oversee undergraduate curriculum and program development/improvement within the Teacher Education Program
Teach courses relevant to educational background and experience (undergraduate and possibly graduate)
Oversee the assessment and accreditation of the Teacher Education Program
Demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching pre-service and in-service teachers
Engage in service and scholarship/professional development
Collaborate with the Field Placement Coordinator in fulfilling the program’s mission and goals, and ensure that the program complies with requirements for certification
Enhance the student experience by serving as an academic and career advisor
Maintain compliance with internal and external reporting requirements for the program
Serve as a liaison between Augustana and the SD Department of Education
