About The Position

An Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) Teacher provides academic and social skills instruction to children ages birth to 5 in a parent-child class setting, creating learning opportunities that foster developmental growth in areas like language, cognition, motor skills, and social-emotional development. The teacher cultivates a multicultural and gender-inclusive classroom environment that supports the belief that all children can learn. They collaborate with parents to offer guidance on child development, monitor individual progress, and adapt instruction to meet diverse needs, all while maintaining a commitment to equity and inclusion.

  • Frequent movement within the classroom and school building, including bending, kneeling, crouching, and reaching, to assist students and set up instructional materials.
  • Occasional lifting, carrying, or moving of instructional materials, classroom supplies, and equipment (up to 25 pounds).
  • Dexterity and hand-eye coordination for operating technology, writing on whiteboards, and handling instructional tools.
  • Ability to actively engage with students in both seated and movement-based activities.
  • Capacity to supervise students during transitions, recess, lunch, and other school-related activities, including outdoor and playground supervision.
  • Ability to respond quickly in emergencies to ensure student safety.
  • Strong auditory ability to listen and respond to student needs and classroom discussions.
  • Visual acuity to read and assess student work, use classroom technology, and monitor student behavior.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field is required.
  • Valid teaching license/certification in Early Childhood Family Education, as required by state regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior teaching experience in an elementary setting is preferred, including student teaching or internship experience.
  • Knowledge of child development, instructional strategies, and curriculum standards for elementary learners.
  • Experience with culturally responsive teaching, differentiated instruction, and classroom management strategies.
  • Familiarity with educational technology, assessment methods, and inclusive teaching practices is beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Planned, implemented, and led engaging educational activities for both children and parents in the ECFE program.
  • Provide developmentally appropriate instruction, ensuring the curriculum aligns with the age and developmental stage of the children.
  • Offer a balanced mix of structured activities, playtime, and parent-child interaction.
  • Lead discussions and workshops to support parents in their role as their child's first teacher.
  • Offer guidance on child development, parenting strategies, and effective communication.
  • Provide individual counseling or support for parents as needed.
  • Monitor and assess children’s development and progress, keeping detailed records.
  • Share information with parents regarding their child’s growth and learning.
  • Maintain confidential student files and documentation in accordance with program policies.
  • Create a positive, nurturing, and safe environment that encourages exploration, creativity, and social interaction.
  • Maintain classroom organization, cleanliness, and safety.
  • Ensure that all materials and equipment are age-appropriate and well-maintained.
  • Work collaboratively with other teachers, staff, and administrators to ensure the program meets the needs of the children and families.
  • Attend team meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
  • Participate in parent-teacher conferences and engage in effective communication with families.
  • Provide support to families in need of community resources, referrals, or additional services.
  • Foster a sense of community within the classroom by encouraging parents to engage and participate.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of the curriculum.
  • Stay current with early childhood education trends, resources, and best practices to enhance teaching.
  • Support positive social and emotional development in children, guiding them in behavior management techniques.
  • Address any behavioral challenges appropriately while also communicating with parents to ensure consistency between home and school environments.
  • Encourage active parent participation during class activities and events.
  • Support the relationship between children and their families, fostering an environment of trust, learning, and mutual respect.
  • Ensure adherence to local, state, and federal regulations, including licensing requirements.
  • Follow health and safety protocols, particularly regarding sanitation, allergies, and emergency procedures.
