About The Position

The Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing will deliver instruction to deaf and hard of hearing students, develop and administer appropriate assessments, maintain accurate student records, and develop compliant Individual Education Programs (IEPs). This role involves providing Specially Designed Instruction, managing student behaviors, implementing evidence-based strategies, attending professional development, conferring with parents and staff, and managing special education caseload requirements. The goal is to meet the unique educational needs of students who are deaf and hard of hearing and foster their academic growth and positive behavior.

Requirements

  • Holds a bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Holds a valid Kentucky Teaching Certificate for Hearing Impaired
  • Knowledge of unique educational needs of students who are deaf and hard of hearing
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, peers, families, and adults.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and community using ASL and English

Nice To Haves

  • Willingness to work toward SLPI (sign Language Professional Interview) advanced status.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver instruction to students who are Deaf and/or hard of hearing.
  • Develop/Administer appropriate assessments (formative/summative) for students who are Deaf and/or hard of hearing.
  • Maintain accurate records on student achievement, attendance, grades and special education requirements.
  • Develop compliant and appropriate Individual Education Programs (IEPs) for students in coordination with the ARC team, including meaningful engagement of students and families.
  • Provide the required Specially Designed Instruction and accommodations for each goal.
  • Follow IEP requirements including special education service delivery and progress monitoring.
  • Manage student behaviors to provide a safe, nurturing learning climate for students.
  • Develop/Implement evidence-based strategies to meet the needs of students with a variety of qualifying disabilities.
  • Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Confer with parents or guardians, other teachers, counselors, and administrators in order to support positive behavior solutions and academic growth for students based on their identified disability category, strengths and needs.
  • Be willing to work toward SLPI (sign Language Professional Interview) advanced status.
  • Manage special education caseload requirements, including appropriate use of technology.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education or designee.
