About The Position

This position is for a Health Science (CTE) Teacher responsible for instructing students in career and technical education. The core curriculum will focus on exploring biotechnology in health science and general career exploration to prepare students for college and career readiness in the 21st century. The role involves a variety of teaching-learning tasks aimed at fostering the development of students into mature, able, and responsible adults. The teacher will work under the supervision of the principal.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals consistent with the duties of this position
  • Ability to compose and write routine reports consistent with the duties of this position
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administrators, staff and the general public consistent with the duties of this position
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Familiarity with basic computer operation and software.
  • Ability to learn various computer operations required for management of student information and integration of technology in classroom instruction.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program
  • Ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Regularly required to sit and talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to walk and use fingers, tools, or controls.
  • Occasionally required to stand and reach with hands and arms.
  • Specific visual abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and depth perception.
  • Occasionally the employee will lift up to 50 lbs. such as to lift files and paper.
  • Bachelors degree or Associates degree in RN, non-RN, allied health, biology-related or medical field from a state or nationally accredited institution
  • Major, or 24 semester hours, in subject area to be taught
  • Valid N.C. teaching license/certificate, or be able to obtain such

Responsibilities

  • Teaches District approved curriculum
  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated
  • Plans a program of study, employing a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
  • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules
  • Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and the like to communicate these objectives to students
  • Assists in diagnosing the learning disabilities of students, with the assistance of district specialists
  • Evaluates pupils' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations
  • Is available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day
