About The Position

Montgomery County Public Schools in Virginia is seeking a Health and Medical Sciences Education teacher for the 26-27 school year. This is an 11-month position (220 days) serving Blacksburg High School and Auburn High School. The role involves teaching Health Occupations courses aligned with industry standards and state curriculum, facilitating student development in leadership and other skills through HOSA, managing technology and curriculum, and ensuring program compliance with state medical board regulations. The teacher will also facilitate clinical placements, collaborate with partners, and prepare students for future education or employment.

Requirements

  • Hold a current, unrestricted Virginia license or multistate licensure privilege as a registered nurse
  • Have two years of experience as a registered nurse
  • Have at least one year of direct client care or supervisory experience in the provision of long-term care services.
  • Graduated from an approved program of study for the preparation of health care professionals.
  • Eligible for a teaching license in Health and Medical Sciences Education
  • Have strong written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrate the ability to work effectively with students and parents
  • Experience fostering an inclusive learning environment
  • Ability to be dependable and punctual

Responsibilities

  • Teach Health Occupations courses to high school students based on current industry standards and state curriculum
  • Facilitate student development and application of leadership, social, civic, and content-specific skills through the Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA), the co-curricular Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) for health and medical science education
  • Manage technology and curriculum
  • Maintain program, student, and instructor compliance with state laws and regulations from the appropriate governing medical board or agency.
  • Facilitate clinical placement of students through collaboration with post-secondary and industry partners
  • Work cooperatively with others in the education setting
  • Prepare students for employment or further education
