About The Position

Provide support for Special Education Teachers, students, and parents for students with Autism. Enable teachers to develop skills for working with all students with different learning styles and behavior challenges. Provide parent or in home training as required in Autism Supplement portion of IEP.

Requirements

  • Sped Certification
  • Generalist Certification
  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate, with required endorsements for subject/level assigned
  • Knowledge of EVIDENCE BASED PRACTICES required for teaching students with Autism
  • Knowledge of subjects assigned
  • General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
  • Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of Special Education Law
  • Knowledge/Experience working with students with disabilities
  • Knowledge of the eleven strategies of the autism supplement

Nice To Haves

  • Student teaching or approved internship, preferred

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement plans that fulfill the requirements of the district’s curriculum program assigned and show written evidence of preparation as required
  • Develop & monitor progress of IEP.
  • Model lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in learning styles in students
  • Model the usage of Evidence Based Practices
  • Attend and prepare all required documentation for ARD meeting for in home parent training
  • Support teachers in planning and using appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned
  • Work with other members of the staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods in accordance with district requirements
  • Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and/or volunteer(s)
  • Employ the use of technologies in the teaching/learning process
  • Support teachers in assessing accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required
  • Be a positive role model for teachers, students and parents, in supporting the mission of the school district
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the physical, social, and emotional development of students
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook, Behavior Intervention Plans or Research Based Strategies
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
  • Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials
  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication by conducting conferences with students, parents, principals and teachers
  • Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents, and community members
  • Maintain Confidentiality
  • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly
  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job related skills
  • Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required
  • Attend and participate in department meetings
  • Conduct in-home/parent training assessments
  • Classroom observations of the student
  • Parent interviews
  • Determine need for services
  • Attend ARD Committee Meetings to discuss services
  • Develop schedule for providing in-home/parent training services
  • Prepare materials and provide in home or parent training services
  • Work with outside agencies to get information and updates for parents on support services
  • Hold Parent Support Meetings – Informational meetings should be held multiple times per year.
