About The Position

The Teacher Assistant supports teachers in helping students meet academic goals, including working with small groups or individual students. The role assists with classroom management and behavioral plans, differentiated instruction, student supervision, and preparation of paperwork and data for the ARD/IEP process. The position is assigned to Schertz Elementary in the Special Education setting and reports to the Dean of Academics. It is full-time, nonexempt, and follows normal school hours.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral forms with all levels of management, both within and outside the district.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within and outside the district.
• Ability to organize special programs for the assigned campus.
• Ability to use a computer and district software and databases, spreadsheet and word-processing software, a calculator, copy machine, and telephone.
• Ability to analyze data.
• Ability to use effective interview techniques, public-speaking skills, and problem-solving skills.

Nice To Haves

• Minimum of 48 college hours preferred.
• Experience working with children preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist teachers with student academic goals by working with small groups or individual students.
• Assist teachers in enforcing classroom management and behavioral plans to create an appropriate learning environment.
• Supervise students during breakfast, recess, lunch, dismissal, special events, and programs.
• Assist teachers with preparing paperwork for the ARD/IEP process; collect and enter data for special education reports and documents.
• Assist teachers with planning, preparing, and implementing differentiated instruction for individual students and groups.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
