About The Position

The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Physical Therapy is currently seeking a temporary Teacher Assistant to work in Coral Gables, FL. The Teacher Assistant provides grading support for undergraduate classes, including the development of rubrics for formative and summative assessments, examination and measured assessment of student work, providing quantitative and qualitative feedback to students, and data entry and statistical analysis of results. This role involves helping teachers with lesson preparation, reviewing lessons or lectures with students one-on-one or in small groups, supervising students in class, between classes, and during examinations. The assistant will also track attendance, grade assignments, calculate grades, and provide extra help to students needing special accommodations or struggling with concepts, including those with disabilities or English as a second language. The Teacher Assistant will specifically work within the Department of Physical Therapy, supporting the delivery of Gross Anatomy courses. Primary responsibilities include assisting in open labs and dissection sessions, providing guidance and support to students during dissection activities, ensuring safety protocols are followed, and facilitating the learning process in the laboratory setting. The role requires collaboration with course instructors to prepare materials, set up laboratory equipment, organize instructional resources, and may involve assisting in grading assignments, conducting review sessions, and providing supplemental instruction to Doctor of Physical Therapy students.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum 1 year of experience
  • Successful completion of Gross Anatomy I and II
  • Strong communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Solid understanding of human anatomy

Responsibilities

  • Provides grading support for undergraduate classes
  • Develops rubrics for formative and summative assessments
  • Examines and measures assessment of student work
  • Provides quantitative and qualitative feedback to students
  • Performs data entry and statistical analysis of results
  • Helps Teachers with lesson preparation, including collecting materials and setting up equipment
  • Reviews lessons or lectures with students on a one-on-one basis or in small groups

  • Assists with tracking attendance, grading assignments, and calculating grades
  • Gives extra help to students who need special accommodations or are struggling with a concept
  • Assists students with special learning requirements, including disabilities or English as a second language students
  • Attends faculty meetings and parent conferences as needed
  • Collaborates with the Teacher to identify students’ issues and recommend solutions
  • Observes the state, school and class rules, and regulations
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and safeguards University assets
