About The Position

Eton Academy is an independent school dedicated to educating students who learn differently. We are seeking educators who demonstrate a passion for learning and the ability to provide top-quality support and instruction for our students. The Teacher Assistant will utilize their experience, previous training, and Eton’s approaches to instruction to support and teach students. The ideal candidate will be genuinely kind, possess a passion for learning that can be shared with students daily, and have a desire to utilize technology in the classroom to improve instruction. The candidate should be able to demonstrate instructional strategies that promote engagement in the curriculum and cultivate a friendly and supportive environment conducive to learning both inside and outside the classroom.

Requirements

  • Associate degree (Required)
  • Ability to commute to Birmingham, MI 48009 (Required)
  • Ability to relocate to Birmingham, MI 48009 before starting work (Required)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in education: 1 year (Preferred)
  • Teaching Certification (Preferred)
  • Interest in working to build expertise in a core subject specific area.

Responsibilities

  • Teach, support, coach, counsel, supervise, and care about the students.
  • Work in partnership with parents.
  • Advocate and promote the school.
  • Work collegially with administrators and fellow faculty and staff.
  • Grow professionally, including before and after school related meetings.
  • Understand and implement all aspects of the Eton Approach and participate in all related certification training.
  • Create a flexible program and provide an environment favorable to individualized learning and personal growth for students.
  • Implement and apply Eton Approach Guiding Principles in daily work.
  • Protect and use instructional time to its fullest.
  • Use multi-sensory explicit, systematic instruction.
  • Develop daily lesson plans/support plans/check-in plans for all students using thoughtful planning.
  • Report on student progress.
  • Review and understand student profiles.
  • Attend and contribute to meetings.
  • Establish effective rapport with students.
  • Motivate students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge to provide a good foundation for life, in accordance with each student’s ability.
  • Establish good relationships and communication with parents and participate in parent-teacher conferences.
  • Establish good working relationships with other faculty/staff members.
  • Continuously remain open to learning new LD strategies/programs to prepare different learners for success.
  • Adhere to all policies in the Eton Handbook.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
  • Teach classes in an associate teacher role.
  • Teach social skills lessons.
  • Support students in one-on-one and small group settings on specific goal areas.
  • Provide check-ins to students on specific goals.
  • Assist lead teacher in classroom setting.
  • Participate in a variety of duties such as morning care, Wellness 10 support, lunch and activity duties, homework support and dismissal duties, clerical support, assessment administration.
  • Substitute teach on an as-needed basis.
