About The Position

The Teacher Assistant supports the daily operation of the Child Development Lab School by assisting with the implementation of developmentally appropriate learning activities and providing a safe, nurturing environment for young children. This position works collaboratively with teachers, students, and families to support children's growth and development while serving as a model early childhood education setting for community college students participating in laboratory and observation experiences. This position receives general supervision from the Facility Director and exercises no supervision. NOTE: This is a security sensitive position and an appropriate background investigation will be made on applicants being strongly considered for this position.

Requirements

  • Earned CDA credential or a minimum of 12 credit hours completed in early childhood education/child development, elementary education, and/or early childhood special education from an accredited college or university
  • More than 6 months of experience working with young children ages birth to five (5) years, including work study, graduate work, and internships
  • Commitment to obtain Pediatric First Aid/CPR, Reporting and Recognizing Abuse and Neglect and other required trainings certifications within 90 days of employment
  • Knowledge of early childhood development and age-appropriate learning practices
  • Knowledge of Texas DFPS Minimum Standards and applicable childcare regulations
  • Knowledge of National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) standards and best practices
  • Knowledge of child health, safety, nutrition, and wellness principles
  • Knowledge of positive behavior guidance and classroom management techniques
  • Knowledge of developmentally appropriate curriculum, learning environments, and child observation/documentation methods
  • Skills in working effectively with young children in an early childhood education setting
  • Skills in supporting classroom instruction, learning activities, and daily routines
  • Skills in building positive relationships and communicating effectively with children, families, students, colleagues, and community members

  • Modeling appropriate teaching, interaction, and guidance strategies for lab students and teacher aides
  • Supporting a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment for children of diverse backgrounds and abilities
  • Exercising sound judgment, problem-solving, decision-making, adaptability, professionalism, confidentiality, and attention to detail in classroom situations
  • Providing caring, high-quality service by creating welcoming experiences, communicating clearly and proactively, addressing needs with professionalism and empathy, and ensuring individuals are thoughtfully connected to appropriate resources.
