About The Position

Individual colleges within the Community College system provide child development centers, offering child care, child development, nutrition and related services for the preschool children of students, staff and citizens of communities in their respective service areas. The colleges also offer academic programs in early childhood education. The child development centers provide the collateral function of serving as laboratories for practical experience by early childhood education students. The Child Development Assistant Teacher assists and participates in teaching, protecting and providing care for pre-school children in a Community College child development center.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in an appropriately related field; or a combination of education, training and experience which would lead to the competencies required for successful performance of the position’s essential duties.

  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams)
  • Applicants must be authorized to work full-time in the United States

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) or more years' experience working as a teacher or assistant teacher in a college lab school.
  • Extensive knowledge of the National Association for the Education of Young Children standards, assessment items, and statement documents, State of CT Early Learning and Development Standards, and the CT DOTS Framework.
  • Current or previous work experience maintaining the State of Connecticut Early Childhood Education licensing regulations for childcare centers.
  • Current or previous working experience contributing to the NAEYC Accreditation process.
  • Experience utilizing and evaluating classroom and behavior management strategies
  • Knowledge/experience with play-based, child-led, and child-initiated learning and play.
