About The Position

This position is responsible for classroom instruction and training in sixth, seventh, and eighth grade Visual Art education. Please note, elective buildings could change based on district need.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree
Missouri teacher certificate in Art K-12

Responsibilities

Design and deliver a well-rounded art curriculum tailored to middle school students, covering techniques such as drawing, painting, sculpture, and digital art.
Create lesson plans that promote creativity, critical thinking, and an understanding of the elements and principles of art that are aligned to state and national standards.
Provide individualized support and constructive feedback to students to help them improve and grow in their artistic skills.
Encourage students to explore and experiment with different techniques and media to build confidence in their artistic abilities.
Foster a positive, inclusive classroom culture that encourages respect, collaboration, and self-expression.
Organize classroom supplies and materials, ensuring a safe and productive learning environment.
Evaluate student progress through projects, assessments, and constructive feedback, helping students improve their artistic skills.
Prepare students for participation in school art shows, exhibits, and local art competitions.
Collaborate with other teachers and staff to support cross-curricular projects and integrate art into the broader school curriculum.
Maintain accurate records of student performance, attendance, and behavior; communicate regularly with parents/guardians about student progress.
Stay informed on new teaching techniques, art education practices, and trends to keep the curriculum engaging and relevant.
Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establishes and communicates clear objectives to students for all lessons and units.
Employs a variety of instructional techniques.
Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated both individually and collaboratively
Prepares for assigned classes and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
Participate in professional development opportunities, faculty meetings, and school events as required.
Collaborates with administrators, colleagues, and parents in a positive and productive manner.
Strives to implement by instruction and action, the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, District policy, and Administrative regulation.
Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct and develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure while maintaining order in the classroom in a fair and appropriate manner.
Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and/or volunteer(s) where applicable.
Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
Perform other duties as necessary to support the mission and vision of Columbia Public School District.
