About The Position

KIPP NYC is looking for teachers who combine the ability to motivate and educate, develop academic and character skills, and make a college preparatory education relevant both now and for the future. The ideal candidate will strongly commit to fostering a love for art among growing learners, encouraging exploration of various mediums and techniques, and nurturing students' artistic skills. This role involves engaging students in meaningful art experiences that promote creativity, self-expression, and appreciation for the arts.

Requirements

  • New York State teacher certification in the appropriate content area
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Possess an art portfolio that highlights your skills and reflects your enthusiasm for both art and education

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive art curriculum that aligns with the school’s standards and the New York City Blueprint for the Arts standards.
  • Create a welcoming and stimulating classroom environment that encourages exploration and experimentation.
  • Teach various artistic techniques and mediums, including painting, drawing, sculpture, and mixed media, appropriate for middle school age students.
  • Foster a positive classroom culture that encourages creativity, collaboration, and respect for diverse artistic expressions.
  • Assess and evaluate student progress, providing constructive feedback to support individual growth and development.
  • Organize and prepare for art shows, exhibitions, and other opportunities to showcase students' artwork.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and contribute to school-wide initiatives.
  • Teaching students in a high-quality, exciting way.
  • Committing to constant professional and personal growth through working closely as part of a team of teachers.
  • Constantly assessing student progress, and communicating results to families and colleagues.
  • Providing individual or small group instruction for students who need additional assistance.
  • Modeling a “whatever it takes” spirit ensures that each student succeeds.
  • Modeling the school’s values in all communications with students, families, and staff.
