About The Position

Almansor Academy, part of the Institute for the Redesign of Learning, is seeking a dedicated Teacher Aide for a full-time position at their South Pasadena school site. This role is crucial in supporting the development of young learners, focusing on their physical, social, emotional, and cognitive growth. The Teacher Aide will provide structure and support to help students become competent, caring, and contributing members of society. Requirements

  • High School diploma
  • Complete and pass a job-related health screening
  • Willing to participate and complete an in-house, 10-week training program
  • Access to reliable transportation
  • CPR and First Aid Certificates (can be provided via in-house training)
  • Access to a mobile phone (for email) & basic internet (if working offsite)
  • Must clear a current background check through the FBI & DOJ
  • A current TB test (within 2 months)

Responsibilities

  • Support students with exceptional needs to access and engage in their curriculum or school activity, including supporting them through learning breakdowns that result in ineffective, negative, inappropriate, and/or aggressive behavior.
  • Reinforce lessons presented by teachers by reviewing material with students one-on-one or in small groups.
  • Supervise students in class, between classes, during lunch and recess, and on field trips.
  • Meet with teachers to review daily lesson plans and contribute information and ideas.
  • Work with students in a one-on-one or small group situation to reinforce instruction and help them learn specific academic skills.
  • Observe and support students in controlling their behavior through the use of positive behavior strategies, de-escalation techniques, competence builders, and other tools and techniques.
  • During behavioral breakdowns or emergencies, use skills to professionally assess, decide, and initiate interventions when necessary to ensure student and staff safety.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork (incident reports, Behavioral Emergency Reports, response reports, data collection, assignment sheets, etc.) in a timely manner.
  • Participate in special programs with a student as required.
  • Assist in maintaining the health and safety of students by being aware of the environment and potential student actions; assist the teacher or specialist according to established guidelines and procedures.
  • Assist students by providing behavioral examples, emotional support, a friendly attitude, and general guidance; assist in directing group activities of students.
