About The Position

The Teacher Aide Floater oversees the environment in an assigned classroom, ensuring child health and safety, supporting appropriate curriculum, and building positive relationships with children, parents, and staff. The role provides classroom coverage and assistance with office and reception duties. This is a part-time position at the Pelham Bay Early Childhood Center in the Bronx, New York. Days and hours are generally Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for 25 hours per week.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High school diploma.
• Willingness to obtain New York State Teaching Assistant Certification.
• Desire to work with children through positive interaction.
• Dependable, flexible, and a team player.
• Demonstrate a full range of motion.
• Be able to lift up to 40 pounds.
• Maintain mental and physical alertness and an appropriate energy level to perform essential job requirements.

Nice To Haves

• Prior experience is preferred but not necessary.

Responsibilities

• Provide room coverage during lunch and to give teachers additional preparation or writing time.
• Cover classrooms to support students or classrooms having difficulty with napping, teachers who are in training, and other needs as necessary.
• Perform office duties, answer phones, and provide reception coverage.
• Maintain classroom management, sanitation, and safety, and support student transitions.
• Maintain adherence to the daily schedule and routine.
• Keep classroom staff and school administration informed about children and issues.
• Maintain the Agency’s policies and procedures.
• Attend ongoing training.
• Perform additional duties as required.
