About The Position

This position is for an 8th Grade Teacher specializing in English Language Arts (ELA) and English Language Development (ELD) for the 2026-2027 school year at Gonzales Community School. The teacher will be responsible for organizing and implementing an instructional program that fosters student achievement and growth in intellectual, emotional, physical, and psychological areas. The role involves providing direct instruction in Language Arts and related skills, adapting the curriculum to meet individual student needs, and maintaining an effective learning atmosphere.

Requirements

  • Four-year degree.
  • Valid New Mexico Secondary Teaching License (or the ability to obtain one) with appropriate endorsements for the courses being taught (NMPED Teacher 7-12 Secondary with Language Arts endorsement OR K-12 Specialty with Language Arts endorsement).
  • Demonstrated general knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of various routine tasks, duties, and procedures.
  • Ability to follow specific instructions with little or no previous experience.
  • Ability to exercise considerable and sound judgment to instruct students and manage their behavior.
  • Willingness to improve competency through professional growth and stay current with profession developments.
  • Ability to deal with various ethnic groups.
  • Strong organization, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, and parents.
  • Skills in oral and written communication.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all District requirements and Board of Education policies.
  • Able to work collaboratively to achieve the overall goals of the school and the district.
  • Must pass a post-offer/pre-employment background check.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and implements a program of study that meets individual student needs, interests, and abilities, complying with New Mexico PED standards, Common Core State Standards, and SFPS Board of Education goals.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials, providing individualized and small group instruction.
  • Delivers curriculum using adopted textbooks.
  • Translates lesson plans into developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior to create an effective learning atmosphere.
  • Evaluates pupils' academic and social growth, maintains records, and prepares progress reports.
  • Identifies pupil needs and makes appropriate referrals; develops strategies for individual education plans (IEPs).
  • Plans and supervises class projects, field trips, and other experiential activities.
  • Is available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day.
  • Sponsors extracurricular activities such as clubs, student organizations, and academic contests.
  • Creates an environment for learning through displays and exhibits of students' work.
  • Collaborates with peers to enhance the instructional environment and develop common assessments.
  • Models professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and the community.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Salary Range: Level 1 License: $55,000+, Level 2 License: $65,000+, Level 3 License: $75,000+
