About The Position

Camino Nuevo Charter Academy (CNCA) is a high-performing public school network dedicated to preparing students from preschool through high school for success in college and life. We integrate academic rigor, community, family, and wellness to empower students to thrive in a culturally connected and changing world. Founded in 2000, CNCA serves approximately 3,500 students from TK through 12th grade across six campuses in the MacArthur Park neighborhood of Los Angeles. We are seeking teachers committed to serving under-resourced communities, who embrace research-based, innovative curricular frameworks like balanced literacy and conceptual-based math. Our approach emphasizes ongoing teacher professional development and collaboration. Teachers must be visionaries, eager to be at the forefront of educational practices, and embrace the challenge of demonstrating success in a low-income, primarily immigrant, multilingual community.

Requirements

  • Valid California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential in the appropriate content/subject matter.
  • BCLAD/ Bilingual Language Learner Authorization (or in the process of obtaining within one year).
  • Demonstrated track record with English language learners.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement varied classroom instructional strategies.
  • Educational vision for and experience with low-income and /or minority students.
  • Passion for working with children and their families.

Nice To Haves

  • Equivalent certification and/or license from another state (must be in the process of transferring to CTC or have all necessary paperwork within 14 calendar days).

Responsibilities

  • Perform a full range of teaching duties, aspiring to excellence in all areas specified by the California Standards for the Teaching Profession, the CNCA Teacher Growth Tool, and the CNCA Inclusion Growth Tool.
  • Provide written documentation of professional lesson planning in line with state content standards and CNCA's expectations, including a year-long pacing plan.
  • Include planned accommodations for students with IEPs, 504 Plans, multilingual learning needs, or RTI considerations in lesson plans.
  • Provide individual and small group instruction or service to students with disabilities as detailed in their IEP documents (for Inclusion Teachers).
  • Ensure students on an alternate curriculum receive a modified curriculum based on their IEP goals (for Inclusion Teachers).
  • Collaborate with parents, administrators, colleagues, and related service providers.
  • Develop a shared discipline strategy and common class rules with team teachers.
  • Coordinate content instruction with team teachers whenever possible.
  • Co-design instruction and collaboratively implement accommodations/modifications with Inclusion Teachers for students with IEPs, 504 Plans, or RTI considerations.
  • Create powerfully engaging curriculum designed to move all students towards meeting California State Standards.
  • Keep detailed documentation of efforts to create consistent and meaningful communication with parents and strategies to promote academic success.
  • Maintain a coherent plan for classroom discipline and document interventions for student behavior.
  • Maintain high-quality records for attendance and coursework, and submit completed report cards and school-wide assessment records on time.
  • Maintain Inclusion Special Education service records by updating them weekly and reviewing reports from the Home Support Office Inclusion Special Education Team for accuracy (for Inclusion Teachers).
  • Make up missing service minutes in a timely manner (for Inclusion Teachers).
  • Take responsibility for Professional Growth, with evidence of growth being part of the teacher evaluation process.
  • Employ a wide variety of teaching methods to create opportunities for deep understanding and differentiated instruction for all levels of ability, including students with special needs.
  • Create and maintain a nurturing and engaging classroom environment.
  • Support CNCA’s mission, vision, and policies and promote and enforce the same.
  • Perform other tasks related to improving student achievement and offering powerful learning opportunities.
  • Maintain awareness of the Master Calendar from the Home Support Office Central Inclusion Special Education Team to ensure student IEP timelines are met and prepare for upcoming IEP meetings (for Inclusion Teachers).
  • Effectively implement department, school, or organization-wide initiatives.
