This position is responsible for elementary classroom instruction and training to students. The teacher will meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated, both individually and collaboratively. They will plan and implement a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of all students using data-driven decision-making. The role involves creating a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of all students, preparing for assigned classes, and encouraging students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior. The teacher will guide the learning process toward curriculum goals, establish clear objectives for lessons and units, and employ a variety of instructional techniques and media. Collaboration with administrators, colleagues, and parents is expected, as is striving to implement the District's philosophy of education. The position requires assessing student accomplishments, evaluating learning problems, taking precautions to protect students and resources, and maintaining accurate records. The teacher will assist the administration in implementing policies, develop classroom behavior rules, and be available to students and parents outside the instructional day when needed. Planning and supervising assignments for teacher aides and/or volunteers, striving to improve professional competence, and attending staff meetings and committees are also key responsibilities. Other duties as necessary to support the mission and vision of Columbia Public School District will be performed.
