About The Position

This position provides instruction in the fundamental aspects of building maintenance, including plumbing, electrical, masonry, carpentry, roofing, and drywall repair. The role involves assessing the educational needs of inmates, developing lesson plans, administering and scoring examinations, and maintaining discipline and security. The teacher will also counsel students on their performance and behavior, attend meetings, prepare reports, and manage supplies and materials. Additionally, the position requires researching and recommending new teaching materials and participating in professional development. The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction is a tobacco-free workplace and requires pre-employment drug testing (including marijuana) and a criminal background check for all final applicants. The department is prohibited from hiring individuals with certain past convictions or who are under a weapons disability if firearms certification is required. Requirements

  • Must meet eligibility requirements for Teacher Certificate/License appropriate for career-tech - building maintenance & grade level as assigned
  • Teacher 1, 71361, must also have baccalaureate degree or less per OEA agreement.
  • Applicant must successfully obtain Teacher Certificate or License prior to employment.
  • Candidates must demonstrate at least five years experience in the plumbing trade or equivalent training or certification in the plumbing trades.

Nice To Haves

  • This position prefers the candidate to receive a license to teach Plumbing from the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce.

Responsibilities

  • Provides instruction in basic fundamentals of building maintenance (e.g., plumbing, electrical, masonry, carpentry, roofing, and drywall repair) and individual assistance
  • Assesses educational needs of inmates
  • Develops lesson plans to address those needs to include individual assignments and training.
  • Administers, scores, and interprets examinations and proficiency indicators.
  • Maintains discipline and/or security
  • Counsels’ students concerning their performance, behavior and/or personal problems.
  • Attends meetings as required
  • Prepares required records and reports (e.g., enrollment, grades, student progress)
  • Inventories and orders supplies and materials needed
  • Researches, selects, and recommends new teaching materials.
  • Attends in-service training sessions and workshops for professional development, performs other duties as assigned
