About The Position

The TDS Proteins Development Drug Delivery Systems (DDS) organization is seeking a highly motivated Co-Op to support the research, design, development, testing, and characterization of drug delivery systems, combination products, and medical devices across multiple early- and late-stage development programs. This role provides hands-on experience in engineering development, laboratory testing, product characterization, data analysis, and experimental design while collaborating with cross-functional teams to advance innovative drug delivery technologies. The successful candidate will contribute to product development, verification, risk management, performance evaluation, and technical investigations that support the development of next-generation pharmaceutical and medical device solutions.

Requirements

  • Completion of Undergraduate Freshman year at an accredited University is required.
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD degree in Biomedical, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Biological, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Computer Science, Pharmaceutical Sciences or related engineering or scientific disciplines.
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, which is reflective of all college coursework.
  • You must not have any Summer Internship contract or other employment commitment that could interfere with the contract dates specified for this position.
  • Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a cross-functional team environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership, initiative, and learning agility.
  • Permanently authorized to work in the U.S., must not require sponsorship of an employment visa (e.g., H-1B or green card) at the time of application or in the future. Students currently on CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT usually requires future sponsorship for long term employment and do not meet the requirements for this program unless eligible for an alternative long-term status that does not require company sponsorship.

  • Candidates should have completed coursework or demonstrate knowledge in: Calculus, Statics and Dynamics, Thermodynamics and Fluid Mechanics.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in product R&D environments, including medical devices, combination products, pharmaceutical products, or physical goods manufacturing.
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing processes and technologies, including extrusion, injection molding, additive manufacturing (3D printing), and manufacturing engineering concepts.
  • Experience with medical devices, combination products, injectable products, or drug delivery systems.
  • Experience using engineering software such as: SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Creo Parametric, Minitab, JMP.
  • Experience performing 3D CAD modeling of components and assemblies.
  • Experience with mechanical testing and characterization methods, including tensile testing (Instron or similar equipment).
  • Experience developing, executing, or validating engineering test methods and test fixtures.
  • Experience with laboratory investigations, product performance characterization, and design verification activities.
  • Experience writing technical documentation, including: User Requirements, Design Requirements, Test Protocols, Technical Reports, Risk Management Documentation, Control Strategy Documentation.
  • Experience with experimental design, research activities, data analysis, and statistical interpretation.
  • Exposure to modeling, simulation, software engineering, electrical engineering, or multidisciplinary product development projects.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting the design, development, and characterization of drug delivery systems, combination products, and medical devices.
  • Contributing to the development of device technologies for targeted drug delivery applications.
  • Designing, implementing, and executing engineering test methods and performance evaluations.
  • Supporting laboratory-based investigations, mechanical characterization studies, and product performance assessments.
  • Assisting in the design and fabrication of testing fixtures and experimental setups.
  • Executing engineering studies, analyzing data, and documenting results to support product development, verification, validation, risk management, and regulatory activities.
  • Exploring and evaluating novel modeling, testing, and analytical approaches to improve product characterization and development efficiency.
  • Analyzing and interpreting experimental results using statistical and engineering methodologies.
  • Participating in design of experiments (DOE) discussions and technical problem-solving activities.
  • Collaborating with engineers, scientists, and cross-functional teams to advance development programs.
  • Maintaining laboratory notebooks, technical documentation, and project records in accordance with established procedures.
  • Presenting technical findings and project updates to internal stakeholders.
