About The Position

This role involves a hybrid work arrangement and focuses on reviewing and preparing various multistate tax returns, including sales and use tax, property tax, and other miscellaneous state and local tax returns. The specialist will also be involved in property tax valuations, payment reviews, and estimating sales and use tax for capital investments. Key responsibilities include providing tax guidance for contracts, defending audits, researching tax issues, monitoring new tax laws, and assisting with planning opportunities and process improvements. The role also requires responding to information requests from regulatory commissions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field
  • 8+ years of relevant work experience
  • Prior property, sales/use tax preparation and review experience, including knowledge of processes.
  • Ability and proficiency in Microsoft Office products (primarily Excel) and Adobe Acrobat
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal, oral and written communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to effectively use tax research tools such as CCH, Checkpoint or LexisNexis
  • Authorization to work in the United States

  • Tax Accounting experience
  • CPA, JD, and/or CMI designation
  • Experience in the utility industry
  • Strong overall computer and technology skills
  • Adept at using tax technology tools (SAP, Thomson Reuters OneSource, PowerPlan)
  • Familiarity with commonly utilized tax credits and incentives

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing and preparing multistate sales and use tax returns and other state and local miscellaneous tax returns.
  • Reviewing and preparing multistate property tax returns and valuations.
  • Reviewing property tax payments prior to remittance.
  • Estimating sales and use tax associated with major capital investment.
  • Preparing and reviewing schedules which provide budgeting and forecasting data related to property tax liabilities in future years.
  • Providing multistate tax guidance for contracts and purchases of materials and equipment.
  • Defending multistate sales and use tax audits, including the review and analysis of supporting documentation as well as supporting schedules related to audit findings.
  • Researching various state and local tax issues.
  • Monitoring and ensuring compliance with new tax laws and regulations.
  • Assisting with implementation of planning opportunities and process improvements.
  • Assist in responding to information requests from multiple regulatory commissions.
  • Be available to work additional hours, in alternate locations, and/or perform additional duties in connection with storms, outages, emergencies, or other situations as deemed necessary by the company.
