About The Position

High Tide Inc. is seeking a detail-driven and proactive Tax Specialist on a 6-month contract basis with potential to join them full-time. This role will play a key part in supporting the Company’s tax compliance and strategic tax initiatives. Reporting to the Tax Manager, this role offers the opportunity to work across corporate income tax, indirect tax, international filings, and tax accounting while partnering closely with internal stakeholders in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. This role provides meaningful exposure, professional growth, and the chance to make a real impact on the business.

Requirements

  • University degree in accounting, finance, or related fields.
  • CPA Designation.
  • At least 3 years of work experience in corporate tax compliance.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian Tax legislation and reporting.
  • Well organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and tight deadlines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective organizational and time management skills.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills including Microsoft Excel and Office Suite.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion (or enrollment) of the CPA In-Depth tax course would be an asset.
  • Exposure to USA Tax legislation and using Avalara would be an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and file federal, state, and local income tax returns and other compliance documents.
  • Prepare legal entity and consolidated income tax provision.
  • Prepare multi jurisdiction indirect tax returns E.g. GST/PST/VAT/ USA sales tax.
  • Prepare foreign affiliate information returns E.g. T106, T1134, T1135.
  • Assist in gathering data and responding to inquiries during tax audits and examinations.
  • Provide support for tax accounting and the necessary tax GL reconciliation.
  • Maintain transfer pricing documentation for intercompany transactions.
  • Research tax laws, regulations, and legislation to determine impact on company operations.
  • Participate in tax due diligence relating to merger and acquisition opportunities.
  • Ensure adherence to SOX requirements, finance processes and controls while emphasizing continuous process improvements.
  • Support the development of tax strategies to minimize liabilities and ensure compliance.
