About The Position

The Special Inventory Tax (SIT) Specialist oversees and directs the SIT department, ensuring accurate and timely processing of tax filings, payments, reconciliations, and dealer support activities. The position maintains departmental records, produces mandated reports, manages refund batching and issuance, and provides high quality customer service to SIT dealers. The Tax Specialist provides strategic leadership, supervises staff, ensures compliance with statutory requirements, and coordinates with internal and external stakeholders. This is a full time, in office position; remote work is not permitted unless specifically authorized based on operational needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Public Administration or a related field. Relevant experience may substitute for the required education.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience in clerical and/or administrative experience in tax, finance, or accounting-related role.
  • Minimum of two (2) years in a supervisory/leadership role overseeing staff or departmental functions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a proven ability to work collaboratively across departments and with external partners.
  • Strong knowledge of property tax, dealer and heavy equipment inventory laws, procedures, and reporting requirements.
  • Ability to interpret and apply complex statutes, ordinances, and financial regulations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, financial systems, spreadsheets, and database management software.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for internal and external stakeholders.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in data and financial reconciliation.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment in sensitive matters.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with property tax systems, appraisal district data, or local government operations.
  • Experience working with dealer inventory tax laws.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the processing of Declarations, Monthly Statements, payments, and amended filings to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations and process disbursements of special inventory tax.
  • Prepare and distribute SIT reports.
  • Monitor and support staff in assisting dealers via phone, email, fax, and in-person interactions.
  • Oversee maintenance of accurate records, research return mail, and manage historical documents.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Research and process complex overpayments, duplicate payments, paid-in-error refunds.
  • Provide guidance, training, and performance evaluations for staff.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
