About The Position

Tax Sr. Managers supervise engagements and assume full responsibility for tax compliance and various projects relative to assigned client engagements including preparation and/or review of corporate, partnership, and individual income tax returns; tax research and preparation of client memorandum, and preparation of quarterly federal and state estimated tax payments. Tax Sr. Managers have specific practice development goals to drive revenue and client management responsibilities.

Requirements

  • 8+ years recent experience in public accounting, specialization with clients in a particular industry is helpful
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary sitting position for at least 50% of the time.
  • Must be able to lift at least 20lbs– specific job duties may require additional lifting to move, transport, position and install equipment
  • Frequently positions self to bend and lift packages.
  • Occasional moving & lifting of equipment; bending, lifting, climbing required to position self to maintain computers during engagements.
  • Person in position needs to occasionally move about the inside of the office to access machinery, cabinets, etc.
  • Person in position frequently communicates with individuals who have inquires. Must be able to exchange information in these situations.
  • Ability to work in a high stress environment.
  • Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license are required including a clean driving record.
  • Minimum levels of auto insurance coverage are required.
  • Ability to travel locally, work overtime and weekends is required.
  • Ability to travel overnight or internationally may be required.
  • Strong tax accounting skills with proficiency in US GAAP, tax compliance, corporate consolidated returns, consolidated federal tax returns, partnership returns, and combined state tax returns.

  • Due to the nature of the client engagements, staff members will be required to have updated immunizations to work onsite at healthcare client locations
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship, with the exception of qualified candidates who are bilingual in either Japanese and English or Chinese and English.

Responsibilities

  • Make recommendations on return preparation regarding accuracy and tax savings opportunities lead review process
  • Plan income tax items for budgeting and cash flow
  • Monitor the effective tax rate, as well as quarterly and annual SEC financial statement tax related disclosures
  • Keep abreast of latest developments as they affect GAAP and the Firm’s standards and policies
  • Review returns for individual, trust, partnership, corporate and foreign tax clients, including federal, foreign, state and local tax returns, estimated payments and extensions, and Federal and State tax audits
  • Research and consult on various tax matters; utilize tax-related software to prepare and process returns and research tax matters
  • Respond to inquiries from the IRS and other tax authorities
  • Determine appropriate tax objectives, scope and methodology and actively participate in decision making with client’s management to understand the broader impact of current decisions
  • Lead and plan tax engagements
  • Manage activities of staff assigned to engagement
  • Provide thorough and effective in review of staff work product while providing constructive feedback and identifying staff developmental needs
  • Examine and analyze accounting records to determine financial status of clients and prepares financial reports concerning operating procedures
  • Handle of periodic projects (assisting with billing, special analysis requested by Partners, etc)
  • Use technical skills to develop meaningful, management advisory items
  • Regularly leverage available technology and other resources to maximize technical application to project
  • Delegates and manages the work of consultants in practice; monitors/maintains morale of engagement
  • Conduct performance reviews and contribute to feedback for staff; follow up with staff relative to career development objectives/plan
  • Identifies needs for practice resources and recruits the right staff giving consideration to technical competencies and culture
  • Ensures appropriate distribution of projects to facilitate staff development while achieving project objectives and economic goals
  • Ensures integration of individual career development plans with the practice plan
  • Coaches others to be effective in developing staff
  • Mentors staff in the development of their relationships with clients
  • Identifies, attracts and develops staff to provide necessary skills and competencies to serve clients
  • Providing appropriate and timely performance feedback to those supervised
  • Effectively conducts staff career planning sessions
  • Provides balanced feedback to clients and staff
  • Contribute to people initiatives, including recruiting, retaining and training other consultants/ professionals
  • Engages in client expansion and cross-serving with meaningful fees sold goal; recognizes importance of lead generation
  • Review and lead proposals and engagement letter development
  • Syndicates ideas and services to other practice developers
  • Facilitates the development of practice development skills of others
  • Understands Practice Development as team effort and is able to meaningfully orchestrate opportunities
  • Solicits client referrals and converts referrals into Practice Development opportunities
  • Presents new services to potential clients
  • Develops a personal marketing plan
  • Proactively defines client relationships that best meet the objectives of both the client and P&MCreates client champions for Plante & Moran
  • Increasing level and types of services to clients
  • Initiating “cross selling” business; demonstrates knowledge of firm services relevant to this client
  • Begins to develop a wider understanding of client’s business outside the scope of engagement by engaging with clients about how they are responding to current business trends and risks in their industry and see how we can help
  • Builds a relationship with client decision-makers where ideas and new service offerings can be discussed
  • Asks client for referrals to other business owners/decision makers
  • Engages the client in conversation about business plan and strategy and identifies opportunities for involvement
  • Begins to develops personal relationships with third parties associated with the client (e.g. banker, attorney, vendor, etc.) to facilitate referrals
  • Introduces P&M staff in service lines which would benefit the client, including colleague partnering
  • Coaches all P&M team members on cross serving skills and creates learning opportunities
  • Establishes and monitors performance measurement metrics consistent with career development and practice plans
  • Interacts with other practice areas including but not limited to audit, tax, and other management consulting service groups
  • Enables and promotes the development of new practices
  • Analyzes budgets/time summaries for planning and billing purposes; leads billing activities; responsible for realization goals
  • Ability to work within budgetary and time constraints while providing a high-level of client satisfaction
  • Responsible for practice economics including production, realization, billing and collection
  • Satisfies internal reporting requirements
