About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Tax Manager, Senior Tax Manager, or Tax Director to join a growing public accounting team. This role is ideal for a tax professional with strong public accounting experience who enjoys working with small business clients, managing complex tax engagements, leading teams, and building long-term client relationships. You will balance hands-on tax work, review responsibilities, staff coaching, and client management while helping drive workflow and projects across the firm.

Requirements

  • Strong experience in public accounting, particularly with small business clients.
  • Expertise in 1120, 1065, and 1040 tax returns.
  • Ability to handle complex tax work and perform detailed reviews.
  • Proven experience managing client relationships and leading teams.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • 10+ years of progressive public accounting experience (for senior-level roles).
  • Experience working with small businesses under US GAAP.
  • Experience leading client meetings and providing advisory support.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA designation preferred (or equivalent experience considered).
  • Additional tax certifications or coursework are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review corporate, partnership, and individual tax returns (1120, 1065, 1040, 1041, 990, 5471).
  • Support multi-state tax filings and planning.
  • Provide tax planning and advisory services to small and owner-managed businesses.
  • Handle complex tax engagements and resolve technical tax issues.
  • Manage and grow relationships with a portfolio of small business clients.
  • Lead client meetings and ongoing communications.
  • Clearly communicate timelines, deliverables, and expectations.
  • Act as a trusted advisor by providing practical, value-driven guidance.
  • Mentor and coach junior and intermediate staff.
  • Review work for accuracy, completeness, and quality.
  • Delegate tasks, manage workloads, and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and service-oriented team environment.
  • Manage multiple engagements simultaneously, especially during peak tax season.
  • Coordinate priorities, deadlines, and resources effectively.
  • Ensure timely completion of work in line with firm standards.
  • Utilize tax and accounting software such as QuickBooks, UltraTax, Canopy, or similar tools.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and client records.
