About The Position

Under the direction and supervision of the Supervisor of TEC Examiners, the employee in this position reviews tax returns for accuracy and completeness and code those same returns for data processing. He/she is required to correspond with taxpayers to obtain missing vital information, using established procedures and guidelines. Work is reviewed for conformity to standards and for the efficient performance of assigned duties and responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of current Virgin Islands and federal tax laws, rules, and regulations governing the review, coding, editing, and processing of individual, corporate, and fiduciary tax returns.
  • Knowledge of the methods, techniques, codes, forms, procedural manuals, files, and reference materials used to research, analyze, code, edit, and resolve discrepancies in tax returns and supporting documentation.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet established deadlines, and perform detailed coding, editing, research, and review tasks rapidly and accurately in a high-volume work environment.
  • Ability to provide guidance to junior-level staff, review work for accuracy and compliance with established procedures, and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and other contacts within the section.
  • Ability to prepare, maintain, and verify statistical and informational records, reports, and related documentation to support accurate tracking, reporting, and resolution of tax return processing activities.
  • Associates degree from an accredited college or university in accounting or business administration.
  • OR High School Diploma or its equivalent with six (6) or more credits in business administration or accounting from an accredited institution and two (2) years of experience reviewing data or tax-related documents.

Responsibilities

  • Examines 1040EZ, 1040A, 1040, 8689, non-remittance, and remittance returns.
  • Codes and edits corporate and fiduciary non-remittance and remittance returns.
  • Performs quality reviews for completeness, legal, procedural and mathematical accuracy, and uniform application of the law.
  • Conducts error resolution.
  • Compiles and prepares reports.
  • Researches manually for extensions and estimated tax payments for income, corporate and fiduciary returns not posted to the system.
  • Contacts taxpayers to request additional information needed to code and edit returns.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
