About The Position

Kaufman Rossin is seeking a Tax Controversy Associate to join our growing Tax Controversy practice. This role is ideal for an early-career tax professional with experience representing taxpayers before the IRS and assisting clients through various stages of the tax controversy process. You will work alongside experienced professionals to resolve complex tax matters while building strong technical expertise and client relationships.

Requirements

  • 1–5 years of tax controversy or related tax experience, preferably in public accounting or a professional services environment.
  • Experience handling IRS notices, collections cases, and examinations.
  • Strong knowledge of IRS procedures and experience reviewing IRS transcripts.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate complex tax matters.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a client-service mindset.
  • Time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Enrolled Agent (EA) certification required.

Nice To Haves

  • Tax preparation experience, including preparing Forms 1040, 1065, 1120, and 1120-S
  • CPA license or active pursuit of CPA licensure.
  • Experience representing clients before the IRS.
  • Familiarity with a variety of federal tax controversy matters beyond notices and examinations.
  • Strong technical research skills and the ability to develop practical, client-focused solutions.
  • A proactive approach to managing engagements and building trusted client relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to IRS notices and correspondence on behalf of individual and business clients.
  • Assist with IRS collections matters, including installment agreements, offers in compromise, and penalty abatement requests.
  • Support IRS examinations (audits) by gathering documentation, preparing responses, and communicating directly with taxing authorities.
  • Obtain, review, and analyze IRS transcripts to identify issues and develop resolution strategies.
  • Research federal tax laws, regulations, and IRS procedures to support client engagements.
  • Prepare professional correspondence, reports, and supporting documentation for clients and taxing authorities.
  • Maintain organized case files, monitor deadlines, and ensure timely completion of engagements.
  • Collaborate with partners, managers, and team members to deliver exceptional client service while meeting annual billable hour expectations.
