About The Position

This position supervises the United States tax compliance function for assigned Berkshire Hathaway Energy platforms, in a manner which minimizes the income tax liability and ensures accurate and timely reporting of all federal, state and local returns. This includes the review of all income tax provision work, review/preparation of information provided for the 10-year forecast, review/preparation of cash tax report information, review of all federal and state estimate calculations and the preparation of financial statement information for all assigned Berkshire Hathaway Energy platforms.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or business.
  • Eight years of big four or related industry work experience which includes six years in tax accounting with a certified public accountant designation or a graduate business degree, including one year in a senior technical/leadership role.
  • If no CPA or graduate business degree, ten years of related work experience which includes six years in tax accounting would be needed.
  • Strong federal, state and local tax experience.
  • Strong consolidation experience.
  • Tax preparation software.
  • Extensive knowledge of federal and state tax laws, accounting and company operations are essential for this position.
  • Extensive interaction with company personnel, both inside and outside the department and outside consultants are essential for this position.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills, including presentation skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and leadership skills.
  • Effective analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Creative thinking and problem-solving skills are very important to this position.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the U.S. tax return process for assigned Berkshire Hathaway Energy platforms (federal and state income/franchise tax returns).
  • Supervise monthly income tax provisions (i.e., tax accounting) for assigned Berkshire Hathaway Energy platforms (including the preparation of quarterly and annual audit reports).
  • Review all income tax provision documentation prepared by tax staff for the assigned Berkshire Hathaway Energy platforms.
  • Assist in the monthly consolidated process for the tax account roll-forwards schedules being provided to Berkshire Hathaway.
  • Prepare the quarterly tax reserve for assigned Berkshire Hathaway Energy platforms.
  • Supervise quarterly estimates paid to federal and state authorities for assigned Berkshire Hathaway Energy platforms.
  • Review cash tax workpapers prepared by tax staff for assigned platforms.
  • Supervise, develop and conduct performance reviews of tax staff assigned under this Position.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
