About The Position

The Tax Analyst position will be engaged as a member of the tax team within Main Street and will report to the Senior Tax Manager. The position will work with the tax team to assist with various projects and interact with the accounting and finance group, deal teams, and Main Street’s external tax service provider. Requirements

  • Minimum 1+ years of federal income tax and/or state income and franchise tax experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • Excellent attention to detail and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent communication and time management skills
  • Flexible and adaptable team player, with a strong work ethic and an eagerness to learn
  • Demonstrated ability to meet stringent deadlines and balance multiple workstreams
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel

Nice To Haves

  • CPA, Masters in tax or J.D. desired
  • experience with data analytic software such as Alteryx or Power BI is considered a plus

Responsibilities

  • Gather financial data for the preparation of federal & state estimated tax payments, federal & state income/franchise tax returns, tax provisions in accordance with ASC 740, and internal projects
  • Provide first review for quarterly tax estimates, calculations, and tax returns prepared by external tax service providers
  • Produce quarterly tax journal entries and conduct reconciliations of tax accounts
  • Assist with the collection, organization, and tracking of tax forms (primarily Schedule K-1) and tax deliverables from portfolio companies
  • Track tax basis for partnership investments
  • Assist with Schedule K-1 tax reporting and state withholding tax requirements for the private credit funds.
  • Collaborate closely with the accounting department to ensure the timely and accurate provision of tax information for accounting and reporting purposes
  • Review tax notices received from various tax jurisdictions for accuracy and/or preparation of response letters
  • Assist with federal, state, and sales and use tax due diligence review for new investments
  • Leverage technology to maximize and enhance tax process efficiencies
  • Assist with SOX documentation
  • Assist with researching complex tax issues and summarizing results in a concise manner to communicate to management and investment team members
  • Responsible for correspondence with tax authorities regarding federal and state notices, etc.
  • Monitor changes in tax laws, regulations, and guidance, and assess their impact on the company and its portfolio companies
