About The Position

KLR interns typically begin during the fall or spring semester and often continue through graduation. Interns support a variety of audit engagements and tax assignments while working closely with and under the supervision of firm professionals. This role is designed to build a strong understanding of public accounting processes, standards, and best practices. This is an in-office internship and is not a remote position.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a degree program with a major in Accounting or a related field
  • Foundational knowledge of accounting theory and principles, with the ability to apply concepts in a practical setting
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe, with the ability to learn and work in additional software applications
  • Detail-oriented with a strong focus on accuracy
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing tasks and schedules
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with professionals at all levels of the organization
  • Demonstrated professionalism and ability to handle confidential information with discretion
  • Ability to work in person in any of our New England office locations
  • Strong work ethic and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, seasonal environment

Responsibilities

  • Assist professional staff with gathering and organizing information for financial reports and tax returns
  • Support Financial Operations staff on departmental projects under the guidance and direction of experienced leaders
  • Conduct research related to audit and tax matters
  • Collect, record, analyze, and evaluate financial and operational data
  • Attend internal training sessions as appropriate to support professional development
  • Prepare engagement letters and assist with the verification and processing of financial statements, valuations, and special reports
  • Learn and apply proper workpaper techniques and documentation standards in accordance with firm guidelines
  • Participate in client fieldwork and assist with select audit areas of financial statements
  • Support the tax department with data input, preparation of tax returns, and other special projects as needed
  • Assist with the development and improvement of process workflows, audit programs, and testing procedures
  • Participate in departmental initiatives and cross-functional projects
  • Complete special projects, tasks, and assignments under general supervision
