About The Position

Nelson Mullins, an AmLaw 100 law firm, is seeking a Tax Accountant to join our internal tax team in Columbia, South Carolina. This role focuses on the firm’s own tax compliance and reporting, offering an opportunity to work in a complex, multi-state environment without the demands of a billable-hour structure. This is an ideal role for a tax professional seeking a more sustainable pace while gaining exposure across compliance, reporting, and planning initiatives. You will work closely with the Senior Tax Accountant and collaborate with firm leadership.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.
• At least three years of relevant tax experience.
• Strong understanding of both federal and state tax concepts.
• Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate across teams.

Nice To Haves

• CPA designation, or active progress toward obtaining one.

Responsibilities

• Preparing and reviewing federal, state, and local tax filings for the firm and related entities.
• Managing recurring areas such as state tax credits, property tax, and fixed assets.
• Supporting tax planning initiatives by identifying potential risks and opportunities.
• Assisting with audits and regulatory inquiries.
• Partnering with internal teams to gather and validate financial data.
• Contributing to process improvements and maintaining thorough documentation.
