About The Position

As a Tax Accountant for PCL Constructors Inc. in Edmonton, Alberta (Corporate), you'll have the opportunity to provide a broad range of tax services to a complex, employee-owned construction organization operating across multiple jurisdictions. While tax compliance and provisions are core responsibilities, the Tax Group also plays an important advisory role within the business. In this role, you will gain exposure to a variety of technical tax areas and business issues that can help accelerate your development as a tax professional. You will work with internal finance and operational teams, support project accounting groups, liaise with tax authorities, and contribute to practical tax solutions that support PCL’s business objectives. The Tax Group’s work includes corporate income taxes, federal and provincial sales taxes, tax credits and incentives, GRIP and safe income calculations, international reporting requirements, foreign affiliate reporting, non-resident withholdings, and surplus calculations. You will also have the opportunity to support emerging and specialized tax initiatives, including: Tax provision automation and next-generation data tools, Corporate structures and acquisitions, International tax matters, including BEPS developments, Transfer pricing, Budget announcements and their impact on PCL and its stakeholders, Tax incentives and other business advisory matters. This is a role where you can build strong technical tax foundations while also developing the communication, advisory, and business-partnering skills needed to grow within a sophisticated corporate tax environment.

Requirements

  • Postsecondary degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related discipline.
  • 3+ years of progressive accounting, tax, or finance experience.
  • Completion of, or near completion of, the Chartered Professional Accountant designation.
  • Working knowledge of Canadian income tax legislation, tax reporting requirements, and compliance obligations.
  • Understanding of corporate tax provisions, tax accounting, and financial reporting principles.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and research capabilities with attention to detail.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain complex tax concepts to non-tax stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a complex, multi-stakeholder environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word

Nice To Haves

  • Currently enrolled in or actively pursuing the CPA In-Depth Tax Course is considered an asset.
  • experience with TaxPrep, CaseWare or any other tax technology or automation tools is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and support corporate income tax compliance filings and related tax reporting requirements.
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual tax provisions, including financial statement disclosures.
  • Collaborate with Corporate Finance and operational teams to ensure accurate tax reporting and compliance.
  • Research and interpret Canadian tax legislation, regulations, budget announcements, and emerging tax developments.
  • Support federal and provincial indirect tax obligations, including sales tax compliance, reporting, and stakeholder support.
  • Liaise with tax authorities and external stakeholders regarding audits, assessments, inquiries, and other tax-related matters.
  • Provide tax guidance, training, and support to project accounting teams, operating offices, and business stakeholders.
  • Participate in tax consulting and advisory projects, delivering practical business solutions across the organization.
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives, including tax automation, data analytics, technology enhancements, and improved reporting tools.
  • Assist with specialized tax projects involving corporate structures, acquisitions, transfer pricing, international taxation, BEPS developments, foreign reporting requirements, tax incentives, GRIP, safe income, and surplus calculations.
  • Keep current with tax legislation, administrative guidance, and developments relevant to PCL’s Canadian and international operations.
