This role is part of Blue Origin corporate functions, providing centralized support across Blue Origin business unit teams, functions, and locations. You'll play a vital role in maintaining accurate tax accounting and reporting, contributing to our mission of making space travel more affordable.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Minimum two years of experience in industry or public accounting, indirect tax.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficient in technology, including Excel, Word, and Business Intelligence interfaces (Cognos, Tableau, etc.), with strong data mining and excel workpaper building abilities.
  • Experience with tax engine software (Avalara, Vertex, etc.) and ERP systems preferred.
  • Ability to communicate tax concepts to all levels of management and peers.
  • Outstanding problem-solving abilities and proactive approach.
  • Skilled in prioritizing tasks with a heightened sense of urgency.
  • Self-starter who completes projects and has a passion for continual improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare multiple state & local sales and use and property tax returns including all related analysis and support.
  • Handle and improve workpapers and internal records for associated tax filings.
  • Support the design and implementation of future platforms, identify and develop efficiencies in current platforms and processes.
  • Coordinate with external and internal customers regarding the applicability of sales tax to a variety of purchases across multiple taxing jurisdictions.
  • Manage tax exemption certificates.
  • Prepare journal entries related to tax accruals.
  • Research and analyze sales tax and property tax rulesets to determine applicability and ensure compliance. Monitor changes to applicable tax rates and laws.
  • Provide support and documentation for external and internal audits on sales tax and property tax.
  • Assist with high profile tax projects, ad hoc requests, and miscellaneous tax filings.
