About The Position

Our local client is seeking an experienced, hospitality-driven Tasting Room Manager to lead their tasting room team, oversee daily retail operations, and deliver exceptional guest experience, while driving sales and Wine Club growth. This leadership role is ideal for someone who is passionate about people, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and enjoys coaching others to succeed. The Tasting Room Manager is responsible for the overall operation of the tasting room, ensuring exceptional customer service, maximizing sales, maintaining operational excellence, and developing a highly engaged team. This individual leads by example, creating an engaging and positive workplace for staff while delivering exceptional hospitality, maintaining the highest service standards, and ensuring every guest leaves with a memorable experience. The successful candidate will be accountable for achieving revenue goals, growing Wine Club membership, fostering ongoing staff development and education, and upholding all company policies and Virginia ABC regulations while representing the brand with professionalism and integrity.

Requirements

  • Management experience in a winery, hospitality, restaurant, luxury retail, or related customer-focused environment is preferred.
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop high-performing teams.
  • Strong inventory management and retail operations experience.
  • Outstanding communication, leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Passion for hospitality and creating memorable guest experiences.
  • Experience with POS and inventory management systems (Commerce7 experience is a plus).
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and remain on your feet for extended periods.
  • Availability to work weekends, holidays, evenings, and special events as business needs require.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, hire, train, coach, and develop an exceptional tasting room team.
  • Foster a positive, professional, and collaborative work environment built on accountability, teamwork, and hospitality.
  • Provide ongoing education and training on wines, vineyard practices, hospitality standards, sales techniques, and winery offerings.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings, coaching sessions, and performance evaluations.
  • Develop schedules that support outstanding guest service while managing labor efficiently.
  • Lead by example and cultivate a culture focused on excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Deliver and inspire exceptional hospitality and personalized customer service for every guest.
  • Ensure visitors enjoy a welcoming, memorable, and educational winery experience.
  • Resolve guest concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Maintain the highest standards of presentation, cleanliness, and service throughout the tasting room.
  • Build guest loyalty through authentic engagement that encourages repeat visits and Wine Club memberships.
  • Lead the team in achieving tasting room sales and revenue goals.
  • Drive Wine Club acquisition and retention through effective coaching and guest engagement.
  • Promote wine sales, retail merchandise, and winery experiences while maximizing average transaction value.
  • Monitor sales performance and implement strategies to improve results and guest conversion.
  • Manage inventory for all wine, merchandise, and non-wine retail products.
  • Oversee product ordering, receiving, inventory reconciliation, and routine cycle counts.
  • Ensure merchandise displays are attractive, fully stocked, and aligned with the brand.
  • Work closely with winery leadership to maintain appropriate inventory levels and product availability.
  • Oversee all daily tasting room operations, including opening and closing procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with all Virginia ABC laws and regulations governing alcohol service.
  • Enforce all company policies, procedures, and performance expectations consistently and professionally.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and welcoming environment for guests and staff.
  • Collaborate with the winemaking, vineyard manager, events, weddings, and hospitality teams to deliver seamless guest experiences.
  • Monitor daily sales, labor costs, and key performance indicators.
  • Analyze business trends and recommend improvements to increase efficiency and profitability.
  • Prepare operational reports and assist with budgeting and forecasting.
  • Identify opportunities to improve guest satisfaction, operational effectiveness, and overall business performance.
