About The Position

Target Security Specialists help keep guests, team members, and the Target brand safe and secure. As part of Assets Protection, the role helps mitigate shortage risks and prevent and resolve theft and fraud so products remain available to guests. Specialists build relationships with store leaders and public safety officials, including law enforcement, and support a welcoming, helpful guest experience while maintaining store security.

The position involves assessing and maintaining security standards throughout the store and exterior property; responding to and documenting security incidents; using de-escalation tactics and Target’s video surveillance and case management systems; assisting with theft recoveries and apprehensions in accordance with company policy; and conducting merchandise receipt checks. Specialists also support other team members, adapt to business needs, and follow safety, ethical-conduct, and compliance requirements. The role is active and physically demanding, requires mobility throughout a shift, and may involve varying temperatures and other environmental conditions. Flexible scheduling, including nights, weekends, holidays, and peak shopping times, is expected.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Meet applicable state or local licensing and other legal requirements for the position.
• Welcoming and helpful attitude toward guests and team members.
• Ability to communicate using multiple-frequency devices and operate handheld scanners and other technology equipment as directed.
• Effective communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to manage workload and prioritize tasks independently.
• Ability to remain focused and composed in a fast-paced environment and complete multiple tasks within established timeframes.
• Ability to climb up and down ladders.
• Ability to apprehend subjects in accordance with company policy.
• Ability to scan, handle, and move merchandise safely and efficiently, including frequently lifting or moving items up to 40 pounds without additional assistance.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and to work scheduled shifts and take required meal and rest breaks.
• Ability to work in and be exposed to varying temperatures, humidity, and other elements while performing certain duties.
• Ability to remain mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift; shift length may vary.

Responsibilities

• Create a friendly and helpful guest experience by greeting guests, helping them find what they need or resolve issues, and thanking them at the end of transactions.
• Support team efforts and assist peers in other areas while maintaining a positive and respectful attitude.
• Adapt to business and guest needs to provide an easy and inspiring guest experience.
• Assess and maintain safe and secure standards throughout the store, including exterior property.
• Respond to security incidents in a timely manner and accurately document them.
• Respond appropriately to guest issues to help provide a safe and secure environment.
• Use de-escalation tactics and resources when responding to security incidents.
• Conduct merchandise theft recoveries and provide theft apprehension support as needed, following Assets Protection policies.
• Perform merchandise receipt checks to help prevent theft and shortage, and recognize and communicate trends.
• Submit incident documentation in the case management system in accordance with Assets Protection policies and procedures.
• Understand and appropriately use Target’s video surveillance system.
• Demonstrate ethical conduct and a culture of safety and compliance; follow safety policies and training, and report or correct hazards where possible.
• Perform other duties based on business needs.
