About The Position

Target Security Specialists help protect guests, team members, and the Target brand by promoting a safe and secure store environment. They support crisis response, safety, crowd management, and de-escalation; use physical security controls and Target’s video surveillance system; document incidents in case management systems; and help mitigate theft, fraud, and shortage risks. The role also includes providing friendly guest service, assisting team members, and adapting to changing business and guest needs. The position is physically active and requires flexibility to work varying hours and shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and peak shopping times. Team members may climb ladders, apprehend subjects in accordance with company policy, handle and move merchandise, and remain mobile throughout a scheduled shift. They may be exposed to varying temperatures, humidity, and other environmental conditions while performing certain duties.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Meet state or local licensure and other legal requirements related to the position.
Welcoming and helpful attitude toward guests and team members.
Ability to communicate using multiple-frequency devices and operate handheld scanners and other technology equipment as directed.
Effective communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to manage workload and prioritize tasks independently.
Ability to remain focused and composed in a fast-paced environment and complete multiple tasks within established timeframes.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including varying hours, days, shifts, nights, weekends, holidays, and peak shopping times.
Ability to climb up and down ladders.
Ability to apprehend subjects in accordance with company policy.
Ability to scan, handle, and move merchandise efficiently and safely, including frequently lifting or moving merchandise up to 40 pounds without additional assistance.
Ability to work scheduled shifts and take required meal and rest breaks.
Ability to remain mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift, which may vary in length.
Ability to work in and be exposed to varying temperatures, humidity, and other elements while performing certain duties.

Responsibilities

Create a friendly guest experience by greeting guests, helping them find what they need or resolve issues, and thanking them at the end of transactions.
Support team efforts and assist peers in other areas while maintaining a positive and respectful attitude.
Adjust to business and guest needs to provide an easy and inspiring guest experience.
Assess and maintain safe and secure standards throughout the store, including exterior property, and promote a physical security culture.
Respond to security incidents and guest issues in a timely and appropriate manner, and accurately document incidents.
Use de-escalation tactics and available resources when responding to security incidents.
Conduct merchandise theft recoveries and provide theft apprehension support as needed, following Assets Protection policies.
Perform merchandise receipt checks at the front of the store, recognize and communicate trends, and help prevent theft and shortage.
Submit incident documentation in the case management system according to policy and procedures.
Understand and appropriately use Target’s video surveillance system.
Demonstrate ethical conduct, safety, and compliance; follow safety policies and training, report hazards, and correct them where possible.
Perform other duties based on business needs.
